Lab Supervisor I Reports to:
Laboratory Director, Lab Manager, Lab Operations Manager Job Summary:
The Laboratory Supervisor I is responsible for overseeing daily operations within a designated laboratory area, ensuring accurate and timely testing, adherence to quality standards, and compliance with regulatory requirements. This role provides technical guidance to laboratory staff, supports training efforts, and assists with troubleshooting instrumentation and procedures. Additionally, the laboratory supervisor works alongside the analysts to meet production goals as necessary.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Supervise daily laboratory activities, ensuring timely and accurate sample analysis. Provide technical support and guidance to analysts and technicians on routine procedures and equipment use. Monitor compliance with SOPs, safety protocols, and regulatory standards (e.g., ISO/IEC 17025, NELAC, EPA). Assist in calibration, validation, and troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation. Review and approve test results, documentation, and data entry in LIMS. Support onboarding and training of new staff in technical procedures and compliance. Maintain inventory of supplies and ensure equipment is properly maintained. Collaborate with the Laboratory Manager to implement process improvements and meet performance goals. Prepare reports and documentation related to lab operations and quality metrics. Promote a safe, organized, and efficient work environment.
Pay Rate:
$24-$43/hour
DOE Required Skills/Abilities:
Strong understanding of laboratory testing principles and instrumentation. Familiarity with LIMS and technical documentation practices. Effective communication and team leadership skills. Ability to train and mentor junior staff. Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field. 3-5 years of laboratory experience, including some supervisory or lead responsibilities. OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit, stand, and move throughout laboratory and office environments. Manual dexterity to operate laboratory instruments and computer systems. Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. Ability to work in a laboratory environment with exposure to chemicals and environmental samples, using appropriate PPE.
