Job Description

Qualifications (What you must have) Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry, biology or any other physical science field is required. Minimum of 7-10 years of previous experience in an environmental laboratory is preferred. Applicant must possess basic and advanced laboratory skills.

Goals :
Be efficient and effective in processing of sample analyses to maximize the number of billable samples. Provide input into the revision and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures. Validate and sign reports. Train personnel, as needed. Responsibilities & Duties (What must be done) •_
Primary Objectives:
_• Researches, analyzes and modifies, as needed, test methods and procedures. Reviews and approves new and revised Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other laboratory documents. Complies with and implement current SOPs, Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs), and Chemical Hygiene and Health & Safety requirements. Reviewing and approving, together with the QA Manager, project proposals from marketing including project's QAPP, in accordance with the established procedure for the review of new contracts. This is to ensure identification of capabilities and limitations of the laboratory. Discrepancies are resolved before the contract is signed and project is initiated. Reviews schedules of laboratory workloads to ensure timely completion of projects. Overseeing and supports staff training to assure that documentation is complete and accurate and that new employees are properly trained. Monitoring validity of analyses performed and data generated in the laboratory. Reviews analytical results to assure data quality & defensibility. Also reviews critical technical data and investigations. Recommending process improvements and corrective actions. Enforcing current Company policies and procedures, QA/QC procedures including safety rules and regulations from ELAP, NELAP, Nevada and all pertinent accreditation and regulatory requirements within the laboratory. Ensuring that sufficient numbers of qualified personnel are employed to supervise and perform the work of the laboratory. Oversees, participates and approves the interviewing, recommends hiring, of departmental employees. Creating, planning and implementing goals, objectives and practices for effective, efficient and cost effective management of allocated resources. Maintaining an environment that emphasizes an intelligent and responsible approach to producing high data quality and accuracy based on the SOPs carried out. Coordinates audit responses with the QA Manager. Performing annual management review together with the QA Manager to evaluate suitability and effectiveness of quality system and make necessary changes or improvements.
Other Objectives:
Schedule self to provide effective, efficient, and timely production. Schedule work to meet Holding Time and Tum-Around Time. Notify client services immediately of potentially compromised analyses -- holding time, due date, etc. Ensure analyses are conducted with strict adherence to method protocol and SOPs. Ensure analyst submittal of complete, accurate, timely, and organized documentation. Ensure maintenance of instrument, supplies, run logs, std logs, etc. Review data for completeness (e.g., requested analytes, QA/QC report, raw data, prep. data, CCV, etc.). Review data for accuracy (e.g., check analyst calculations, dilutions, sample prep., etc.). Review data for reliability (e.g., degradation, tailing, coelution, LCS/LCSD, MS/MSD, Blank, contaminants, etc.). Sanity check (e.g., does data make sense-• ion balance, BTEX Eff., etc.).
