Summary of Essential Functions:
We are seeking a Clinical Lab Scientist General Supervisor (CLS-GS) for a fast-paced, high-volume CLIA laboratory located in Milpitas, California. TheCLS-GS of Simple HealthKit's High Complexity CLIA Laboratory is a hands-on position responsible for the day-to-day supervision and oversight of the clinical laboratory's operations and personnel performing patient sample processing, testing and reporting of test results .
Essential Job Functions:
Maintains regular onsite presence at the Milpitas laboratory facility to provide direct supervision and immediate operational oversight during all testing operations, including: Maintains availability during laboratory operating hours, which may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed to ensure uninterrupted laboratory supervision and operations. Provides direct supervision and remains available to testing personnel, including: Is accessible to testing personnel at all times testing is performed to provide on-site, telephone or electronic support. Exercises independent professional judgment and critical thinking to resolve urgent technical, quality control, and operational issues that directly affect patient safety, test result accuracy, and laboratory compliance in real-time. Providing day to day supervision of testing personnel performing sample testing. Must be on-site to provide direct supervision when high complexity testing is performed by trained laboratory staff. Monitors and maintains quality control (QC) in compliance with established laboratory procedures, including: Monitors laboratory processes to ensure that test performance is maintained with daily/periodic , scheduled instrument and equipment maintenance, and other quality assurance activities as assigned. Initiates preventive and/or remedial actions when test procedures deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications In the event of non-conformances, ensure that results of test examinations are not reported until all corrective actions have been taken. Oversees training, competency assessment, and development of testing personnel, including: Verifies that personnel are trained and deemed proficient prior to performing testing on patient specimens independently. Performs competency assessment for testing personnel Verifies that testing personnel are evaluated semi-annually during the first year of hire, and thereafter annually, as being competent for assigned tasks and that remedial action is performed when staff do not perform as expected. Evaluating and documenting the performance of all testing personnel as required. Ensure action is taken when personnel do not perform as expected on competency assessments. Manages daily laboratory operations and personnel to ensure compliance and operational effectiveness, including: Complying with policies and procedures established by Simple HealthKit clinical lab. Communicating problems and non-conformities to the laboratory management. Provides day-to-day operational oversight and leadership to laboratory personnel, including prioritizing workflow, addressing operational challenges, and making real-time decisions to maintain laboratory operations. Providing hands on back-up support to the testing personnel in the performance of all operational clinical tests as required to meet service imperative Orders and manages inventory and installation and qualification of laboratory equipment . Ensures operational compliance with the Quality Management System (QMS) program and regulatory requirements, including: Coordinates laboratory activities to complement the duties and responsibilities of the Quality Manager Participates in the monthly QMS meetings, presenting activities and metric outcomes to review and assess compliance, developing and implementing remedial activity plans, as needed, and activities for quality improvement Coordinates activities and preparing for regulatory inspections Ensures operational compliance with the clinical laboratory's Quality Management Systems (QMS) Program and delivering the routine QMS associated metrics Ensures timely reporting of test results to both state and federal regulatory authorities. Provides technical oversight and collaborates with the Laboratory Director and technical supervisors on laboratory compliance activities, including: Provides leadership and managerial oversight to the CLIA department. Assists laboratory director and technical supervisors in the following tasks: Selects test methodology appropriate for the clinical use of the test menu. Verifies procedures for testing performed and establishes the laboratory's performance criteria, including accuracy and precision of each test and test system. Enrolls the laboratory in an approved PT program commensurate with services offered. Certifies all proficiency testing samples were tested in the same way as patient specimens and signs the attestation page. Reviews proficiency testing results and identifies trends that may affect patient results over time.
Qualifications:
Current California State Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) Generalist license (required)
Experience:
Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience in a high-complexity clinical laboratory Demonstrated continuous hands-on expertise in clinical sample testing, ensuring no interruptions in technical practice. Practical and hands-on experience in CLIA Quality Management Systems (QMS)
Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of molecular diagnostics preferred Demonstrated leadership skills Excellent problem solving skills with attention to details; demonstrated strength in tact and diplomacy with internal and external collaborators Ability to work independently; exercise good judgment Able to work collaboratively in a cross-functional structure Ability to advocate strategically effective solutions to complex problems and to influence and negotiate solutions across the organization Effective verbal and written communication skills Project management skills preferred Ability to maintain sustained attention to detail while reviewing quality control data, test results, and laboratory processes in a high-volume, fast-paced environment Strong capacity to manage multiple competing priorities, emergencies, and operational demands simultaneously Ability to perform effectively under pressure and respond appropriately to time-sensitive situations affecting patient care and laboratory operations. Physical Demands The essential functions of this position require the ability to lift and move specimens, reagents, or equipment, or containers up to 30 pounds. The essential functions of this position require the ability to stand for extended periods of time, as well as bend, stoop, and reach to retrieve specimens and materials. Visual acuity sufficient to inspect specimens, read instrument displays and printouts, review quality control data, and identify potential sample or equipment issues. Manual dexterity sufficient to manipulate laboratory equipment, handle specimens, and perform testing procedures as needed. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with laboratory personnel both verbally and in writing, including the ability to provide immediate verbal direction during urgent or emergency situations. Ability to work safely with biohazardous materials and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) including lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and other protective gear as required by laboratory safety protocols.
