Electronics Lab Manager (Part Time)

Part-Time (20 hours/week) / Hours 4 hours/day, 5 days/week
Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Lab Manager with strong organizational skills and expert-level soldering capabilities, particularly in BGA rework and reballing. This part-time contract role requires someone who takes ownership of their work and can demonstrate a proven track record in lab management. The ideal candidate will bring structure, accountability, and hands-on technical excellence to our lab environment.
Schedule:
4 hours per day, 5 days per week (20 hours/week)
Key Responsibilities:
Manage day-to-day lab operations, including equipment, inventory, and workspace organization Perform precision soldering and rework tasks, including: BGA (Ball Grid Array) rework and replacement BGA reballing operations Fine-pitch component soldering and rework Maintain lab equipment, tools, and workstations in optimal condition Establish and enforce lab organization standards and procedures Track inventory of components, consumables, and equipment Coordinate with engineering teams to prioritize lab tasks and support project timelines Document lab processes, procedures, and work completed Take ownership of lab cleanliness, safety, and efficiency
Required Qualifications:
Demonstrated lab management experience with specific examples of previous lab oversight roles Expert soldering and rework skills, specifically: BGA rework (removal and replacement) BGA reballing techniques Must be able to demonstrate skills during a practical assessment following virtual screening Strong organizational abilities with attention to detail and a systematic approach Proven job history showing stability and progression in similar roles (this is not an entry-level position) Ability to take ownership and work independently with minimal supervision Strong communication skills for coordinating with engineering teams
Preferred Skills:
Linux system experience (the more experience, the better) Proficiency with rework stations (hot air, IR, etc.) and reballing equipment Experience with lab inventory management systems IPC certification (IPC-7711/7721 or similar) for rework and repair The ideal candidate is someone who: Treats the lab as their own, taking pride in organization and efficiency Has a track record of reliability and ownership in previous roles Can demonstrate, not just describe, their technical soldering skills Brings structure and accountability to lab operations Works well independently while keeping stakeholders informed
