We are searching for a Histology Supervisor to report to our Lab Manager at our Palm Beach Pathology location in West Palm Beach. Job Summary The Histology/IHC Supervisor supervises employees and oversees lab operation as well as administrative resources of the Histology and IHC departments. Implements direction from Lab Manager with overall section functions; collaborates with the Medical Director to measure, assess, and improve performance of all sections; assures a high level of customer satisfaction. Makes sure Histology policies/procedures are followed Duties Responsible for Histology and IHC Departments' efficient and effective utilization of resources; meets and establishes company goals and objectives; ensures results of operations in meeting timelines and customer needs; assures all quality standards are adhered to; monitors work and projects to ensure deadlines. Ability to recognize and solve problems in a timely and accurate manner. Develops and trains employees and ensures employee proficiency in all areas of Histology. Plans / delegates daily workflow; establishes short and long range goals; schedules and prioritizes work; manages functions by delegating tasks. Actively participates in the selection and retention of qualified personnel; evaluates volumes to determine adequate staffing needs. Provides sound and timely decision-making to ensure work is completed accurately and appropriately. Keeps employees informed and holds staff meetings as needed. Maintain lines of communication with all employees, peers, and management staff. Collaborates with other staff to ensure work processes and workflow meet organizational and/or business needs and are in accordance with established mission, vision, and values. Resolves conflict through finding common ground and obtaining cooperation with minimum disruption to the department and identifies problems and provides solutions. Establish and maintain efficient lines of communication to the staff and upper management. Maintain safety standards set forth by regulatory groups and company policy. Maintains records and procedures determined by CAP and the management.
Other Duties/Responsibilities:
Gathers/organizes department QI data as per the Quality Improvement Program. Updates and maintains procedure manuals for required sections. Assure that standard systems are implemented and utilized by staff. Coordination and integration of functions within and between the sections of Histology. Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies including CAP accreditation, State of Florida and CLIA and accepted industry standards Collaborates with Pathologists and assumes responsibility for their issues requiring intervention. Makes recommendations for new and/or additional technology to expand technical services. Requirements Current licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Supervisor with the state of Florida Must be a certified HT or HTL by ASCP or equivalent certifying organization Attends continuing education activities and/or certification to maintain current knowledge and skills for new and/or additional technology to expand technical services. Minimum five years of progressive responsible experience which demonstrates the knowledge and expertise necessary to supervise a Histology laboratory. Work Environment Laboratory environment. Extensive contact with Pathologists, executive management staff, and peers and employees. Handling of Hazardous Materials- Knowledge and training with handling of Hazardous waste materials. Contingency plan implementation, emergency response procedures, communications and alarms, emergency equipment use, evacuation routes, response to fire, explosion and ground water contamination incidents and site shut down procedures. High pressure to meet deadlines impacting turn-around-time and managing complex issues. Physical Activities Must be able to sustain normal exposure to common laboratory environment May require exposure to "fresh" specimens or specimens that require the use of Universal Precautions Tolerate face mask and germicidal soaps Exposure to xylene, alcohol and other biohazardous materials Requires sitting or standing for extended periods of time Requires manual and finger dexterity along with eye-hand coordination Lifts and/or carries items weighing up to 30 pounds This position is ideal for individuals who are passionate about advancing their careers in histology while contributing to essential healthcare services.
