Job Description

About the Role The Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for the daily oversight of an assigned technical department (Chemistry, Molecular, or Proteins) within the Diagnostic Solutions Laboratory. This role ensures accurate, timely, and compliant laboratory testing while maintaining high standards of quality, productivity, and regulatory readiness. The Laboratory Supervisor leads and supports department staff, oversees technical workflows, and drives continuous improvement across departmental operations. This position reports directly to the Laboratory Manager and works closely with the Laboratory Director, Quality, and cross-functional teams. Key Responsibilities Operations & Quality Supervise day-to-day department operations to ensure accurate and timely generation and release of patient test results Oversee departmental assay workflows, including specimen handling, preparation, analysis, and result review in accordance with SOPs and regulatory requirements Ensure adherence to CLIA, CAP, and applicable state regulations; maintain continuous inspection readiness Perform and oversee quality control (QC), quality assurance (QA), proficiency testing, and corrective actions when deviations occur Review, approve, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), controlled documents, and validation records Monitor departmental productivity, deviation rates, and turnaround times; implement corrective actions and process improvements as needed Instrumentation & Inventory Maintain and oversee calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and documentation for department instrumentation Manage inventory of reagents, consumables, and supplies; coordinate purchasing and vendor interactions to ensure uninterrupted workflow Staff Leadership & Development Supervise, train, mentor, and evaluate department staff; conduct competency assessments and performance evaluations Develop and manage work schedules based on workload demands and staffing needs Provide routine coaching, guidance, and feedback to staff to promote accountability, accuracy, and professional development Compliance & Continuous Improvement Investigate and document nonconforming events, deviations, and customer complaints related to departmental testing Collaborate with Quality, cross-departmental teams (Chemistry, Molecular, Proteins), R&D, Logistics, and Customer Support to resolve technical and operational issues Participate in and lead Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and reduce error rates Prepare operational, quality, and performance reports for laboratory leadership Perform bench-level testing as needed to support department operations (approximately 50-75% bench work depending on staffing and volume) Perform other duties as assigned by laboratory leadership Qualifications & Requirements Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or a related scientific discipline (Master's degree preferred) Must meet CLIA qualifications for a General or Technical Supervisor in high-complexity testing Minimum of 4 years of clinical laboratory experience, with at least 2 years in the relevant discipline (Chemistry, Molecular Diagnostics, or Proteins/Clinical Chemistry) preferred Prior supervisory or lead experience required Demonstrated knowledge of applicable assays, analytical instrumentation, QC principles, and laboratory workflows for the assigned department Strong understanding of CLIA, CAP, and regulatory compliance requirements Proficiency with
LIS/LIMS
systems and Microsoft Office applications Proven ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining accuracy, compliance, and productivity Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, highly regulated laboratory environment Why Join DSL?
