Assumes 24-hour responsibility for management of the fiscal, personnel, and operational functions for all sections of the laboratory department. Facilitates maximum accuracy, cost efficiency and productivity of laboratory testing and personnel. Assists with the planning and development of laboratory sections in the areas of responsibility. Develop strategies for improving operations through active participation in continuous quality improvement initiatives.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE
Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or in Chemistry, Biology or related field with one-year clinical internship in an accredited Medical Technology program or approved alternate career path as designated in the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act of 1988 (CLIA '88). Registration by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), or National Certification Agency (NCA), or American Medical Technologists (AMT) is required. Demonstrated proficiency in communication and working well with others is required. Knowledge of personnel and fiscal management is required.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Three (3) to five (5) years supervisory experience preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel preferred.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Actively demonstrates customer service philosophy. Responsible for timely completion of Annual Performance Evaluations. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of management/supervisory responsibilities as identified in the corporate compliance plan. As a working director, assumes all essential functions of a Medical Technologist (see separate job description). Responsible for personnel activities that include interviewing, hiring, evaluating, counseling, and terminating. Responsible for directly evaluating work performance and disciplining staff members. Facilitates staff orientation, continuing education/competencies, and licensing requirements according to facility and regulatory guidelines. Seeks and participates in continuing education, professional meetings and other activities designed to improve or enhance management and technical knowledge and skills. Ensures compliance with the requirements of laboratory regulatory and accrediting agencies. Evaluates, recommends and coordinates implementation of new tests, instrumentation, and/or methods. Assesses department needs and makes recommendations regarding the purchasing of supplies and equipment. Anticipates capital purchases in advance. Ensures standard operating policies and procedures are current and adhere to the laboratory's document control system. Reviews department activities and recommends changes in, or better utilization of, facilities, services, and staff. Actively supports and participates in the continuous quality improvement efforts. Works independently and organizes work to meet established deadlines. Communicates in a clear, concise and credible manner. Maintains a high level of professionalism when interacting with staff, peers, clients and administrative colleagues. Works with COO and Finance in the development of budgets and monitors expenses appropriate to laboratory management. Utilizes quality improvement methods and analysis to increase efficiency and improve cost effectiveness without compromising quality of service necessary for patient care. Ensures that patient concerns are addressed and that appropriate and timely follow-up is performed in reporting system. Directs the maintenance of physical environment and equipment. Ensures charging/reimbursement changes are integrated into every level of lab operating by coordinating with Finance. Promotes personal growth/development and understanding among staff members. Ensures staff are trained adequately in the use of computer systems and maintains specific lab systems as assigned. Assists with documentation audits. Directs, motivates and evaluates activities of lab employees, ensuring that lab goals and expectations are met. Serves on hospital committees as assigned. Pro-actively analyzes lab operations to identify barriers or new opportunities Performs additional tasks, special functions and/or special projects as assigned. Oversees all clinics (BCFM-S, BCFM-N, Madrid, Ogden, Walk-In Clinic, Wound Clinic) lab areas; checking QC, PT, monthly visits as needed. Coordinates student clinical rotations schedule to ensure proper training Establishes and maintains work schedules and staffing assignments to ensure adequate staffing. Presents problems in a professional manner and helps coordinate solutions interdepartmentally. Creatively implements solutions to problems.PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS
