Active in policy and procedure determinations, oversees scheduling to ensure correct staffing levels and works with all supervisory personnel to ensure delivery of quality laboratory service.
Specific Job Duties:
Listed below is an outline of the major duties and responsibilities that you will be required to perform. However, we must emphasize that you may be required to perform other related duties and activities. Annually evaluate the performance of laboratory staff in the department by ensuring daily compliance with work performance standards and providing technical expertise as needed or requested. Works in conjunction with the Laboratory Director, Laboratory Compliance Officer and Laboratory Managers in the formulation, implementation and compliance of departmental policies and procedures. Ensures compliance with current safety requirements by local, state and federal agencies. Oversees and ensures compliance with the established laboratory quality control program. Participates in long-range planning and budgeting processes in conjunction with the Laboratory Director and ensures performance within budgetary limits. Able to provide justification if variances exist. Supervises the daily operations of the department. Oversees scheduling to ensure correct staffing levels within the department. Counsels personnel on laboratory and hospital policies concerning job performance, as needed. Provides customer service for questions directed at the laboratory from patient providers regarding test processes, patient results, or sample collection techniques. Identifies and resolves problems due to breaks in communication, complaints or employee concerns, ultimately to determine the root cause of the problem. Ensures in conjunction with the Laboratory Compliance Officer that the department complies with all local, state and federal regulatory requirements and maintains a continuous state of readiness. Provides orientation for new employees with regard to hospital, general laboratory, performance improvement and safety policies. Oversees employee departmental technical training to ensure competency prior to working independently. Participates in continuing education programs to maintain current knowledge of advances in laboratory technology. Participates in WKH multidisciplinary committees, as requested, and reports back information to laboratory at leadership meetings.
