Job Description

This position facilitates a senior faculty member?s research program through the management of the laboratory operations. Oversees the laboratory?s administrative functions on behalf of the PI, supervises technical staff, and monitors work to ensure maintenance of good laboratory practice. This role reports directly to the PI and works closely with the PI?s executive administrator, Research Science Manager and Department Administrator. Located in Boston and the surrounding communities, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is a leader in life changing breakthroughs in cancer research and patient care. Laboratory Operations Implements, maintains, and improves standard procedures for laboratory efficiencies. Monitors work of research staff to ensure good laboratory practices. Maintains the inventory and ordering of laboratory supplies (e.g., flow antibodies, restriction enzymes, proteins, plasmids, DNA, etc.). Ensures the proper use, maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment. Serves as the Laboratory Safety Officer. As applicable, efficiently manages mouse colonies through proper allocation of technical support resources in response to scientific need, in consultation with the scientific program manager. Scientific Operations Assists the PI in monitoring, enabling and facilitating collaborations with other programs. Actively contributes to research projects as appropriate. May manage mice colonies and genotypes, and conduct breeding of multiple strains. Conducts western blot, PCR, flow cytometry, and tissue cultures. Monitors all laboratory expenditures. Ensures all lab staff are compliant with DFCI, NIH and sponsor mandatory trainings. Staff Supervision and Support Assists the PI with counseling, teaching, training, mentoring, orientation, in-service and continuing education for all laboratory staff and trainees. Supervises research staff (e.g., technicians, specialists, trainees). Hires, develops, and manages staff to achieve organizational goals. Sets clear expectations, delivers feedback, and monitors performance for quality, efficiency, and compliance with policies and procedures. Mentors staff, fosters career growth, and cultivates a positive and productive work environment. Pay Transparency Statement The hiring range is based on market pay structures, with individual salaries determined by factors such as business needs, market conditions, internal equity, and based on the candidate?s relevant experience, skills and qualifications. For union positions, the pay range is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). $88,000.00 - $110,100.00
