Job Description

Mercedes-Benz Research and Development North America, Inc. has the following position available in
Ann Arbor, MI:
Manager, Emissions Lab (MER-SS): Contribute technical insight and expertise, as it relates to testing methodologies for fuel economy or emissions, to ensure that the Mercedes-Benz brand is properly represented during the regulatory rulemaking process. Ensure optimal utilization of the emissions laboratory by coordinating efforts to ensure proper maintenance of building and support equipment, timely ordering of supplies, scheduling of tests, and staffing of personnel. Foster a cooperative, proactive environment rooted in honesty, respect, and integrity, while ensuring adherence to all company policies as outlined in the Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America employee handbook. Collaborate with internal and external clients (e.g. Powertrain, durability, Certification, etc.) and work to communize processes where possible between internal labs. Ensure compliance of all OSHA, state, and local regulations pertaining to the laboratory's facility and employees, including contract and temporary staff, by assessing and minimizing any risks which may endanger the personal safety of employees and or contractors. Develop and mentor laboratory technicians to build a motivated and strategically focused testing team. Maintain current and establish new` KPIs to monitor operational trends and expenses to ensure cost effective operations. Serve as the primary liaison between Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America and Mercedes-Benz AG, ensuring the accurate provision of emissions and fuel economy test data in compliance with state and federal regulations. Act as the internal expert for all items related to US emissions, fuel economy, and efficiency measurement processes. Ensure process reliability and compliance with Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America's testing procedures by overseeing the calibration and maintenance of exhaust and Sealed Housing Evaporative Procedure (SHED) analytical equipment. Maintain process control, reliability, and data generation capabilities for Mercedes-Benz vehicles. Utilize best practices to investigate and embrace new technologies, generate cost savings, and enhance standardized testing practices and processes.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor of Science or foreign degree equivalent in Automotive Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related Engineering field, plus seven (7) years of experience in the job offered, as an Automotive Compliance/Certification Engineer, Emissions Engineer, or in a related occupation.
Special Requirements:
The following skills must have been gained through seven (7) years of experience: Experience with emission testing procedures, emissions technology, and Automotive Government Code of Federal Regulations. Experience with U.S. automotive certification timelines. Experience with U.S. emissions, fuel economy, and OBD certification processes and timelines. Experience with automotive control practices, and experience conducting trend analysis and implementing process improvements, improving efficiencies and generating cost savings. Experience with local and state safety regulations such as:
OSHA, ISO 9001
2015, etc. Experience with automotive project management The following skills must have been gained through three (3) years of experience: Experience with mechanical, electrical, and automotive testing. Experience applying best practice testing methodologies to identify, resolve, and optimize test and calibration processes.
