Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
The Lab & X-Ray Manager is responsible for overseeing the overall operations of the Laboratory & X-Ray departments. This person reports directly to the Clinic Administrator. The Lab & X-Ray Manager will abide by all clinic policies & procedures, hold the Family Practice Values to the highest standard, and keep the Family Practice Mission & Vision at the forefront of decisions made on behalf of Family Practice of Grand Island. The Lab & X-Ray Manager will also be accountable to hold his or her staff to the same standard.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Proficient in the use of current LIS, all lab equipment, lab procedures, specimen processing, and phlebotomy
  • Responsible for hiring, training, supervising, coaching, mentoring, retaining and evaluating of Laboratory and X-Ray staff
  • Maintain staff trainings, licenses, and certifications for all Laboratory & X-Ray personnel as required
  • Manage work schedules so that Lab & X-Ray departments are appropriately staffed
  • Ensures all regulatory requirements are met, especially when changes occur (i.e., CLIA, legislative)
  • Operates and maintains laboratory diagnostic equipment and ensures equipment is functioning properly
  • Performs all safety inspections and adheres to safety standards
  • Oversees quality assurance program; ensures compliance with quality control standards and safety guidelines.
  • Mets required deadlines for proficiency testing.
  • Addresses and completes corrective actions for proficiency testing failures
  • Ensures that employee competencies are maintained annually
  • Ensures all calibrations are verified and documented appropriately and timely
  • Interprets complex data and communicates it effectively to providers and staff
  • Resolve instrument problems and/or serve as point of contact for service technicians when needed
  • Performs or schedules and documents preventative maintenance procedures
  • Maintains service contracts, warranties and evaluate new instrumentation
  • Maintain Laboratory & X-Ray standard operating procedures appropriately and according to local, state, and federal regulations
  • Disposes and documents the use of hazardous waste appropriately
  • Monitor current Laboratory test costs along with payer reimbursements to ensure tests being ran in-house remain cost effective
  • Manage LIS setup and maintenance
  • Oversee and educate clinical staff on use of appropriate diagnosis codes, as well as use of ABNs
  • Oversee inventory management for all Laboratory & X-Ray supplies, including ordering and reviewing all invoices
  • Work with Financial Accountant to develop department budget annually, and monitor/manage department budget on a monthly basis
  • Serve as an active participant of the Family Practice leadership team
  • Work with the leadership team on process improvement initiatives, strategic planning goals, policies & procedures, and other special projects
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned
EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
  • MLT required, MLS preferred
  • CPR certification required
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as MLT or MLS required
  • 3-5 years of leadership experience preferred
  • Limited X-Ray license preferred, or willingness to obtain
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to operate within all software programs necessary to manage Laboratory & X-Ray operations
