Job Description

Manages the day-to-day functions of the science labs Provides oversight and delegates assignments to part time staff Manages the preparation of chemicals, supplies, and equipment Adheres to all safety procedures and enforces safety regulations within the laboratories Maintains inventory for equipment, glassware, chemicals, live and preserved materials Submits orders in a timely manner Assists with purchasing materials and living specimens from local stores Manages and maintains the process for online science kits Manages the day-to-day operations of the greenhouse Interacts with supervisor, faculty and coworkers to ensure efficient function of the laboratories Monitors security of the laboratories and lab equipment Prepares and maintains microbiology cultures, performing inoculations for student use Aids in the development, implementation and support of laboratory courses Provides support of laboratory instructors Troubleshoots and redesigns material preparation to correct inconsistencies in laboratory experiments Works with faculty to maintain laboratory prep sheets Performs research for emerging laboratory practices Serves as the back-up contact person for laboratory faculty Performs related duties as assigned
Education:
Bachelor's degree in
Science Experience:
Three years Science Lab experience
Competencies:
Demonstrated knowledge of science equipment, materials and safety practices Demonstrated ability to work independently Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form Computer literacy to include Microsoft Office products
Physical Requirements:
Ability to walk/stand for up to 7 hours Ability to lift up to 50 pounds Ability to climb three flights of stairs and ladder/step stool
Terms of Employment:
Must pass an employment physical examination This position requires the handling of hazardous materials Reliable transportation and valid NJ driver's license This position may require flexible scheduling to include evenings and weekends and duties at any Atlantic Cape location.
