7:00am-6:00pm Monday-Friday / Rotating Saturdays Primary Function/General Purpose of Position This position is responsible for day-to-day supervision and oversight of the phlebotomy team to include phlebotomy collections as well as day to day operations of the receiving and specimen processing areas. Responsible for training of both employees and students. Responsible for hiring, HR employee conversations, employee disciplinary actions, employee rounding, competency, evaluations, and scheduling. Evaluates and make improvements to department processes while ensuring compliance with organizational policies and Joint Commission standards. Works independently and in collaboration with leadership to support key operational goals. Collaborates with leaders to establish operating procedures, enhance clinical workflows, increase productivity, and improve overall quality outcomes in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Performs CLIA waived and moderate complexity testing, Works closely with leadership on improvement projects and employee engagement. Essential Job Functions Oversees functions of phlebotomy, laboratory receiving and specimen processing. In charge of scheduling coverage for all shifts. Frequently visits collection locations and documents observations. Assists with coverage for all phlebotomy needs, ensuring two patient identifier (name and date of birth) and assists with receiving and specimen processing to ensure samples are properly spun, poured off, stored and/or distributed to the laboratory for testing. Works closely with proper processing of reference testing. Functions as a laboratory liaison between all areas of the lab, hospital units, registration, provider practices and outpatient draw sites to ensure collaborative quality care as it relates to all phases of sample collection. Responsible for overseeing all hiring, payroll, HR related employee conversations, employee disciplinary action, employee rounding, competency, and evaluation of teammates. Maintains inventory by orders supplies and equipment for his area of oversight as well as client needs as necessary and ensuring this is cost effective for the phlebotomy team. Follows all protocols for specimen collection and handling, documentation, interpretation, completion, and care of the patient during all phases of specimen collection. Works closely with LIS/IT department to troubleshoot accuracy of orders and functionality. In-services staff on all IT functions related to phlebotomy duties. Collaborates with lab educator for the oversight of phlebotomy student rotations and affiliate programs Responsible for LIS Registration and ensuring EMR registration is complete prior to placing orders Leads regularly scheduled phlebotomy team meetings and rounds frequently with staff. Licensing/Certification Phlebotomy certification strongly preferred. Education High school diploma or GED required . Work Experience At least 2 years of phlebotomy experience required .
