Job Description
The Manager performs essential duties required to assure the efficient operation of the simulation center and laboratory for the programs in the Department of Health Sciences. The Simulation Center and Lab Manager plays a key role in the Department of Health Sciences by being responsible for the efficient operations of the Health Sciences Skills Lab Simulation Center, and supplying the needs of faculty members, and will be responsible for collaborating with department directors, faculty and staff to ensure appropriate lab utilization across disciplines. Faculty and community liaison for Simulation Lab regarding design, application, operation, maintenance, training, reliability and performance of simulator, computer and audiovisual instrumentation.
Current license or privilege to practice as a Registered Nurse/Vocational Nurse/Paramedic in the State of Texas, OR Associates Degree from a nationally, regionally or identified at the state level accredited institution of higher education prefer in applied science required. 2 years of nursing/paramedic experience OR 2 years' experience working in a simulation lab required. Ability to be a highly motivated, self-starter and team-player, willing to share creative solutions and best practices. Strong organization, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Must be able to critically think, and to balance multiple tasks simultaneously. Represents the college to clinical agencies, students, and the community by leading the lab and simulation scheduling and collaborative efforts. Ability to work a flexible schedule. Flexibility and adaptability with a commitment to excellence. Use effective oral and written communication skills. Exhibit the organizational skills that support safe, efficient operation of the laboratory. Ability to prioritize work demands and reliably meet deadlines with minimal supervision. Leads efforts to facilitate lab resources, including low fidelity, mid-fidelity, and high-fidelity patient simulation equipment and supplies, for internal and external stakeholders. Oversees the placement and maintenance of equipment and computers in the Control Room. Assist in the operation of the simulators and audio-visual equipment as needed. Supports faculty, staff, and students with laboratory resources conducive to achievement of clinical learning in a simulated patient care environment. Provide training and enforcement of safety procedures and orientation to faculty regarding simulation laboratory procedures, location and use of materials, and the operation of equipment. Demonstrate technical aspects of simulator operations to staff/ instructors. Provide training for staff/instructors in the utilization of simulator equipment. Stays current with new technology and its impact on simulation offerings. Collaborates with program coordinators and faculty to ensure preparation of lab supplies and equipment based on faculty requests and course schedules. Oversees preparation and maintenance of all simulated patient care environments with equipment, supplies, media, computers, and materials needed to replicate a virtual healthcare setting. Collaborate with faculty to schedule detailed clinically-based scenarios for the computerized simulators to include props and moulage. Ensure the effective operation of all simulation equipment and serve as point of contact for instrument or equipment repairs. Supervises and directs the laboratory assistant(s). Establish and monitor procedures for signing out of lab/simulation equipment and movement of lab/simulation equipment from one lab to another. Participates in community outreach programs and marketing as requested and conducts tours of the simulation center. Develops and maintains policies and procedures relevant to the operations of the simulation center, and enforces the policies and procedures. Recommend facilitate, and/or perform maintenance or repairs of equipment; coordinate approved simulation laboratory renovations and repairs, Order supplies as needed into the simulation center inventory and makes recommendations for equipment/budget. Ensure general cleaning of the laboratory/simulation center and maintain cleaning of equipment in lab. Perform other duties as assigned.
