Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs duties within the Clinical Laboratory, which requires a sound knowledge of clinical laboratory science in order to evaluate clinical data and quality control information. Responsible for overseeing employee training and/or specimen testing in designated areas. Assists Laboratory Manager/Laboratory Supervisor as needed to ensure the provision of timely and accurate laboratory test results through processes that are in compliance with requirements established by accreditation standards and by federal/state reimbursement agencies. Assists Laboratory management as needed in staff-related and administrative tasks. Must be able to assist with on-call assignments, as needed.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Two years clinical laboratory experience with at least one year experience in the specific laboratory department. Bachelor's degree in medical technology or an appropriate biological/chemical/medical science from an accredited college or university, and successful completion of a structured clinical program (CAHEA approved), and certification in clinical laboratory sciences by a recognized certifying agency OR completion of an accredited structured clinical program in Medical Technology (
NOTE:
For Military Training, the 60-week program must have been successfully completed.) and certification by a recognized certifying agency, both prior to 1963 OR Bachelor's degree or Master's Degree in an appropriate biological/chemical/medical science from an accredited college or university and a clinical laboratory categorical certification (certification after obtaining degree is preferred).
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION
Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) is required. Certification in Specialty for area of laboratory employment required without a Medical Laboratory Science (or equivalent) certification. Must maintain certification status in compliance with specifications for continuing education required by the certification agency OR Certification as a Histocompatibility Technologist or Specialist by the American College of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ACHI) is required.
