Job Description Position Purpose:
Responsible for supervising and overseeing the day-to-day laboratory operations. Oversee and assist staff on sample analysis and the determination of chemical components of waste materials and products from processing. Ensures that the laboratory site is in proper compliance with company policies and procedures as well as with appropriate regulatory agencies. Oversee and assist in the training newly hired team members in the various techniques utilized in the laboratory in identifying a variety of hazardous and non-hazardous materials. Interacts with Operations staff to identify/manage the sample workload. Interacts with Sales, Marketing and corporate Process Development personnel to identify/manage new recycle product opportunities.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
Interpret analytical data and determine waste acceptability and establish appropriate disposition in accordance with regulatory and company requirements. Interpret analytical data and determine product acceptability, oversee and assist in the preparation of documentation for those products including certificates of analysis and material safety data sheets. Maintain all laboratory documents as required by company policies and procedures as well as appropriate regulatory agencies and special requirements of customers. Operate laboratory sample management program to include waste and product samples receiving and shipping, sample storage, and appropriate disposal according to quality assurance and control standards as well as special requirements from customers. Work with appropriate in-house personnel as well as customers to streamline approvals, establish product specification guidelines, and resolve analytical issues. Provide appropriate training to new and existing chemists and laboratory technicians for efficiency and effectiveness in the performance of their duties. Maintenance and repair of analytical equipment and documents in accordance with quality assurance and control compliance as well as procurement of new instrumentation or equipment and supplies as required. Perform periodic audits of analytical logs to ensure regulatory compliance for completeness and accuracy. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Education/Experience/Background:
BS in Chemistry or a related discipline required. 5 to 8 years in the hazardous waste industry or related work. 1 to 2 years of supervisory experience preferred.
