PHLEBOTOMY SUPERVISOR -- LAB CENTRAL -- MEMORIAL HOSPITAL

68987) Job Summary Responsible for the direct supervision of phlebotomy activities. Responsibilities
  • Supervise employees on daily work performance.
  • Responsible for supervising employees at various locations.
  • Maintain a safe working environment for staff.
  • Direct employees to proper facility when ill.
  • Ensure all employees are aware of proper procedure for critical call result.
  • Rotate employees on holidays, vacations, etc.
  • Inform employees on new lab procedures, client status and company policies.
  • Keep communication flowing between lab and registration.
  • Keep communication across all lab departments/locations.
  • Communicate with reference labs.
  • Communicate with CAMC personnel, clients and physicians.
  • Responsible for employee time cards.
  • Complete employee evaluations.
  • Responsible for employee personnel records (attendance, absences, PTO, etc.).
  • Responsible for all work load recording for further references.
  • Keep copies of all doctors' orders.
  • Keep records of daily billing copies to insure all clients and patients are correctly billed.
  • Keep records of internal matters of concern forms for further references.
  • Responsible for accurate test requesting and looking up lab results; responsible for knowing all computer menus, status of lab results, helping clients locate past results, helping locate patients past results for further studies,
  • checking for special comments or directions on lab test, checking menu for special comments or directions on lab test and checking tech information.
Collecting Specimens:
venipuncture of pediatric and infants using butterflies and fingersticks, venipuncture of adults, urine and urine culture collections; semen analysis, and special blood collection; blood cultures and L.A.P., Slides, PKU Collections (heel sticks), various reference lab requirements, collect samples for CAMC ambulatory departments, collect samples for State Lab and Health Department, proper specimen requirements, and supplying doctors with phlebotomist when requested.
  • Be able to spin specimens.
  • Separate blood from cells when necessary.
  • Freeze samples for transport.
  • Package samples in biohazard bags for courier transport.
  • Transport STAT specimens to lab for analysis.
  • See that all OSHA requirements are met and that all employees wear proper personal protective equipment.
  • Use safety shields when handling samples.
  • Properly clean and maintain all work areas using appropriate disinfectants.
  • Has been evaluated against CLIA-88 requirements and is qualified to perform all duties and responsibilities for this position.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Patient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact) The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department's identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients. Competency Statement Must demonstrate competency through an initial orientation and ongoing competency validation to independently perform tasks and additional duties as specified in the job description and the unit/department specific competency checklist. Common Duties and Responsibilities (Essential duties common to all positions) 1. Maintain and document all applicable required education. 2. Demonstrate positive customer service and co-worker relations. 3. Comply with the company's attendance policy. 4. Participate in the continuous, quality improvement activities of the department and institution. 5. Perform work in a cost effective manner. 6. Perform work in accordance with all departmental pay practices and scheduling policies, including but not limited to, overtime, various shift work, and on-call situations. 7. Perform work in alignment with the overall mission and strategic plan of the organization. 8. Follow organizational and departmental policies and procedures, as applicable. 9. Perform related duties as assigned. Education
