Weekly pay About the Role ShareSTAFF is hiring California-licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientists (CLSs) for a 3-year contract opportunity supporting a California state public health agency's CLIA Survey Section. In this role, you conduct onsite surveys and inspections of clinical and physician office laboratories across California to determine compliance with the California Business and Professions Code and federal Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) requirements. You work under the direction of a senior CLIA Survey Section examiner, performing complaint investigations, follow-up inspections, exit interviews, and deficiency reporting. This is a regulatory compliance role rather than a bench position, with in-state and out-of-state travel for day and overnight inspection trips. The role is based at the agency's Northern California office in Richmond, CA with an anticipated start in July 2026. - earn extra when you refer a fellow healthcare professional Dedicated recruiter support before, during, and after your assignment Extension opportunities and access to new assignments nationwide What You'll Do Perform onsite inspections of clinical laboratories and physician office laboratories to determine compliance with the California Business and Professions Code and federal CLIA requirements Conduct complaint investigations and follow-up inspections to ensure correction of identified deficiencies Review survey reports, interpret state and federal laws, and consult with field surveyors regarding compliance Coordinate inspection schedules and provide subject-matter expertise on laboratory regulations Communicate findings during exit interviews and prepare official deficiency reports and corrective action reviews Maintain and update compliance information in state and federal databases Provide technical assistance and respond to inquiries from laboratories, the public, and other stakeholders Participate in legal proceedings related to laboratory sanctions and prepare documentation for enforcement actions Verify specimen adequacy, perform complex analyses, and validate test results through correlation with test parameters What You Bring•Required Current Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) license issued by the California Department of Public Health, in good standing Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in an appropriate scientific field Minimum 3 years of experience in one or more of the following: field consultation in clinical or public health laboratories; supervision of professional laboratory staff or service as a laboratory director; or staff specialist work in technical areas of clinical or public health laboratory sciences Working knowledge of clinical laboratory procedures and policies relevant to federal and state regulatory compliance Availability to travel in-state and out-of-state for day and overnight inspection trips Must be able to complete pre-placement requirements What You Bring•Preferred Prior experience as a CLIA surveyor, laboratory inspector, or in clinical laboratory regulatory compliance ASCP, AMT, or AAB board certification (Medical Laboratory Scientist or equivalent) Specialty laboratory experience in chemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology, or molecular biology Familiarity with the
CMS CLIA
program, CAP accreditation standards, orISO 15189
