Clinical Laboratory Scientist Job Description We are seeking a dedicated Clinical Laboratory Scientist to oversee the operation of an assigned laboratory section. You will be responsible for performing laboratory testing, assisting with procedures, equipment maintenance, quality control, and providing leadership. This role requires safeguarding patient confidentiality and ensuring a safe environment in compliance with regulatory requirements. Responsibilities Perform laboratory tests in accordance with established standards and procedures. Oversee quality control and assist in quality assurance programs related to the assigned section. Evaluate new equipment and methodologies, train staff, and assess competency. Monitor and perform instrument calibration and verification studies. Coordinate staff rotation in proficiency testing and investigate unacceptable results. Maintain inventory control and ensure efficient daily operation. Communicate critical values to physicians timely and document appropriately. Comply with standards, laws, and regulations of licensing and accrediting agencies. Demonstrate positive customer service behavior and teamwork approach. Participate in continuing education and maintain knowledge of safety, hazardous materials, and infection control. Essential Skills California Clinical Laboratory license
ASCP-MLS
certification 1+ years of previous CLS experience in an acute care hospital preferred Technical skills in laboratory science Working knowledge of quality control rules and regulatory standards (CLIA, DHS, CAP, Joint Commission) Proficiency in blood bank skills (ABO/Rh, antibody screen, dispensing blood) Additional Skills & Qualifications Precise with details and strong organizational skills Effective writing and technical writing skills Problem-solving ability Knowledge of computers, word processing, and spreadsheet skills Work Environment This role is based in a laboratory setting, with shifts from Monday to Friday during PM (2:30 PM - 11 PM) and Night (10:30 PM - 7 AM) hours. The position includes rotating weekends and may require flexibility for different start times, including weekends and holidays. The work environment emphasizes safety and adherence to procedures, with a focus on maintaining high standards of laboratory operations. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Whittier, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $63.00 - $85.00/hr.
