Job Description

This is a full-time 40 hour a week position. Rotating Weekend and Holidays (Schedule is 4 days, 10 hour shifts)
THE POSITION
The Medical Technologist (MT) works in collaboration with the veterinary staff and the Pathology team to provide Angell clientele with high quality clinical and anatomical laboratory services. These laboratory services include various technical, customer service, computer entry, clerical related procedures, specimen processing and low to high complexity laboratory testing procedures. It also includes providing procedure related information in Hematology, Chemistry, Blood Bank, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, specimen requirements and other related laboratory areas as requested on patient specimens, control materials and proficiency samples.
Some of the duties include:
Performs clinical testing and complex analysis of biological materials. Testing includes analysis of not only patient specimens but also proficiency samples, quality control (QC) material and calibration of methods, equipment and instruments. Operates, maintains, troubleshoots and resolves issues with laboratory instrumentation, equipment and test assays. Documents minor repairs and maintenance procedures. Consistently uses available resources to maintain and repair instruments or problem solves assay issues. Processes and prepares specimens for analysis. Determines requirements and suitability of specimens for analysis and maintains track of specimens from receipt in the laboratory to reporting of results. Accessions and invoices patient samples as needed; performs any processes necessary to render the sample ready for on-site or reference laboratory testing/analysis and maintains proper pre-analytical and post-analytical storage of specimens. Functions as a team leader in the absence of management team and lead technologist. Uses sound professional judgment to make decisions necessary to ensure continued output of quality Pathology department services. Collaborates with the department Director and/or Pathologist (s) for operational and technical advice. Assist in the training process for new and current employees; accurately records, discusses and troubleshoots the trainee's progress with supervisor and other lead technicians as well as the trainee. Accesses and enters data into the laboratory information system (LIS). Training on the LIS will be provided.

Compensation:
$34-$38 Hourly Please note that candidates with additional experience or credentials may be eligible for compensation aligned with their qualifications.
APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS
Education :
Graduate of accredited CLSI Laboratory Science program with certification as a Medical Technologist, Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Laboratory Technician or Specialist by ASCP or other nationally recognized credentialing agency. Candidates with a B.S. or A.S., comparable experience working in a veterinary or human laboratory and 1 to 3 years bench experience will also be considered.
Experience:
Minimum of MT/CLS clinical laboratory internship or 1-3 years of Clinical or Veterinary Laboratory experience preferred.
