Job ResponsibilitiesPre-analytical Specimen ProcessingDemonstrates proficiency in determining specimen requirements blood collections for all age groups, order entry, order query, specimen accessioning, and specimen distributions.
Sorts all samples to allow for fast retrieval.
Proficient in collecting blood successfully on difficult patientsUtilizes two forms of patient identification.
Evaluates and processes all lab specimens according to specimen acceptability policy.
Analytic testingAccurately performs laboratory analyses on patient specimens.
Verifies completed work only after careful review of order priority, completeness, absurd results, critical values and special requests.
Quality ControlPerforms quality control testing as required for each analyte.
Ensures that results pass quality control criteria before verifying results.
Participates in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
Brings forward quality concerns and issues in a timely manner following the proper chain of commandInstrument MaintenanceSkillfully performs required instrumentation maintenance so that analyzers will perform optimally over a longer period of time.
Documents all entries.
Documents all problems and report them to supervisor.
STAT Testing Turnaround TimesRecognizes STAT testing priorities.
Turnaround times shall not exceed established limits defined in the Laboratory STAT Testing Policy.
Accuracy of ResultsReviews results for critical values, delta variances, unusual or absurd results, and result completeness prior to certification and release of information.
Always telephones critical results to clinician.
Obtains read back and documentsLIS ProficiencyMaximally utilizes the features of the LIS system to enable productive and efficient use of time.
Report problems encountered to Information Services Department to allow for times resolution.
Proficiency TestingParticipates successfully in proficiency testing challenges.
Reads survey summary reports to gain knowledge in particular specialty.
Work InitiativeShows initiative to aid staff and/or supervisors who have heavier workload, or seeks additional tasks outside of primary area.
Demonstrate initiative to continue to learn and develop new skills in medical technology by reading the latest literature, attending lab meetings and in-services, attending outside seminars, and assisting with procedure development and validations.
SafetyStaff member shall consistently adhere to all applicable safety practices including Standard Precautions, as defined in the Safety Manual and the Infection Control Manual. It is employee's responsibility to successfully complete all mandatory safety in-services prior to each performance appraisal.
Staff member is observed adhering to proper use of gloves and lab coats to help ensure personal safety.
Properly disposes of hazardous and non-hazardous materials into proper containers.
LeadershipDemonstrates a high level of professionalism at all times.
Demonstrates teamwork along with excellent communication and customer service skills.
Minimum EducationCompletion of MT or MLT program with a Bachelor's or Associate's degree.
Required LicensesASCP certification or registry eligible required.

Pay Range:
$36.00 - $51.84The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
