Please click here to learn more about our locations. Job Description Shriners Children's St. Louis has an opportunity for a full-time Senior Medical Technologist. In this position, you will be responsible for assisting with daily activities, providing technical leadership for clinical staff, supporting diagnostic activities, and ensuring patient satisfaction, quality care and regulatory/accreditation standards are achieved.
Key Responsibilities:
Performs pre-analytic, and analytic and post-analytic procedures, exercising independent judgement and responsibility Assesses and resolves test and blood product orders, resolving unclear or duplicate requests Collects blood on outpatients and effectively receives and processes all specimen types. Orders reference test procedures and prepares for courier pick-up in a timely manner. Appropriately performs and analyzes calibrations and quality control procedures Competently performs all in-house tests within established timeframes Recognizes unusual test results or test system performance issues and takes necessary action for resolution Notifies the appropriate clinical staff of critical values within established timeframes Stores and retains records as required by hospital policies Communicates in an appropriate and timely manner with staff; seeks input, provides accurate information and makes recommendations for policy and/or practice change Monitors, controls, evaluates and reports departmental expenditures for salary, equipment and supplies Provides oversight of technical laboratory operations Plans and utilizes resources within the department to maximize efficiency Participates in the evaluation and selection of methods, equipment and supplies Resolves basic equipment problems or malfunctions, overseeing the maintenance and serving as a resource to staff Reviews patient results as well as related records such as quality control and instrument correlations Writes, reviews and modifies department policies and procedures as needed Assists management in survey readiness for external audits, ensuring compliance with accrediting agencies and regulatory requirements Maintains inventory/supplies necessary for testing purposes Monitors compliance with laboratory and hospital-wide safety, reducing potential area of risk Responds and acts on safety recommendations
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor of Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science or Science 5 years Clinical Laboratory experience MLT (ASCP), CLS or Equivalent certification Med. Tech license in state of practice
Preferred Qualifications:
2 years Management/Supervisory experience The pay range for this position is $35.37 - $53.05. Compensation is determined based on years of relevant experience and departmental equity.
