Job Description

Andrology Tech Carolinas Fertility Institute, the leading IVF practice in the Southeast, is currently seeking a Part Time Medical Laboratory Technician or Technologist to train and function as an Andrology technician for our nicely appointed, Cary, NC clinic for approx 16-20 hrs per week. The technician will operate sophisticated equipment to perform tests on samples of patients' blood, urine, semen, and other fluids and tissues. This position is perfect for a technician currently working 3/12's or a weekend shift. Training and proficiency sign off are required. As a result, expedited training may require travel to the Winston Salem or Charlotte, NC clinics. The weekly hours will be 30-40 during training.
Candidates:
Must have heavy microscope and manual counting experience. Will conduct semen analysis Are able to recognize abnormal or unexpected results and initiates follow-up or corrective actions. Communicate results to physicians and nurses. Provide patient results as a physician designee. Must have demonstrable pipette expertise. Function well in time sensitive, fast paced work environment. Will be required to draw blood. Monitor lab equipment and document findings Monitor of lab supplies, report to supervisor needed reorders Schedule patients Provide weekend coverage for lab on a rotating schedule. Must be flexible. Must be comfortable rooming patients, giving results, answer questions about embryo/sperm storage.
Position Requirements :
This profession entails working with patients' bodily fluids, which may contain contagious diseases and other contaminants. Laboratories typically have sterilization and infection-control programs designed to limit the exposure risk. These professionals have to be focused, with strong attention to detail. They need analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking abilities. Good communication skills are required for working with patients, lab customers, coworkers, and medical staff.
Educational Requirements:
• Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited two-year technical school or community college, Bachelor of Science degree from four-year college in Biology, medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or another health science technology is required. • Coursework in chemistry, biology, anatomy, immunology, laboratory management, medical ethics, microbiology, parasitology, and physiology.
