Scope/Impact Obtains specimens from patients and performs established clinical tests and procedures, interprets test results, and performs instrument maintenance and quality control. OSHA Blood borne Pathogens Class I Job Functions Reviews and follows requests for tests and procedures prescribed by physicians. Draws and processes specimens promptly and in compliance with established policies. Identifies and labels specimens. Provides appropriate care for a neonate, pediatric, adolescent, or geriatric patient based on demonstrated knowledge of the prinicples of growth and development over the human life span. Assesses and intreprets data on neonate, pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients in order to identify the requirements relative to their age-specific needs and provides care needed as stipulated in departmental policies. Follows the established procedures for routine lab testing. Follows the established procedures when performing chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, bacterial cultures, blood bank, or serology kits. Follows quality control procedures for all tests. Reviews accuracy of results before reporting. Checks validity by evaluation of quality control data, previous tests, and duplicate testing. Reports critical values to the appropriate charge nurse, nurse, physician. Records all work completed and maintains workload information on work completed. Performs routine and preventive maintenance. XIV. Performs calibration and linearity. Reports equipment problems to supervisor immediately, Maintains logs and other documentation. Provides service direct to patients while maintaining a positive patient atmosphere. Interacts with the Medical Staff members and other department managers on a continuous basis. Follows policies and procedures of infection control. Maintains strict patient confidentiality as outlined by HIPA. Follows procedures for using precautions when involved in direct patient contact or when handling potentially infectious materials. Other duties as required or assigned by supervisor. Current Certification as a Medical Technologist or eligible, must meet CLIA requirements.AMT or ASCP Education Required Required:
Bachelors Degree in Medical Technology or related field.Amount and Type of Experience Required:
