Job Description

Job Title:
Medical Technologist (multiple openings)
Duties:
The full-time Medical Technologist at Tomah Memorial Hospital, Inc. in Tomah, WI will perform clinical laboratory procedures while applying scientific principles and knowledge of physiological conditions affecting test results in order to ensure high quality laboratory services. Performs quality assurance and instrument maintenance and maintains cooperative working relationships with intradepartmental and interdepartmental personnel. Recognizes test inconsistencies and take appropriates corrective action. Provides assistance to laboratory co-workers in resolution of similar test inconsistencies problems and consults the Director or clinical pathologist. Contacts the physicians or nurses immediately to deliver critical test results according to established criteria and documents contact. Prepares test reports legibly and reviews reports for clerical accuracy and clinical indications. Performs venipunctures and arterial blood gases on all relevant age groups and obtains neonatal heel sticks and finger capillary blood specimens. Performs drug collections (DOT and non-DOT), breathalyzer testing and legal blood draws as assigned and according to policy. Runs quality control tests according to procedure and maintains appropriate data recording and review process. Analyzes quality control data and takes appropriate corrective action when results are outside acceptable limits. Holds patient results until out-of-control situations are resolved. Reports unresolved situations to the section head, or when appropriate, to the clinical pathologist or Medical Director. Provides in-service training to other laboratory personnel and students within a designated area. Hours and shifts will vary depending on Dept. needs.
Minimum Requirements:
Requires a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, or foreign equivalent, or a closely related field.
