Vocational Specialist, Brain Injury Clubhouse, Full-time Brooks Rehabilitation - 3.6 Jacksonville, FL Job Details Full-time 5 hours ago Benefits Paid time off Employee discount Retirement plan Qualifications Working with individuals with disabilities Writing skills High school diploma or GED Desktop applications Computer skills Full Job Description Vocational Specialist assists adults with brain injury to understand and perform basic skills required by the employer, to learn important job readiness skills, to prepare for interviews, and to succeed once placed into a volunteer or paid position.
Responsibilities:
Maintains confidentiality of program member information. Adheres to policies and procedures specific to member rights. Maintains a clean and safe environment; identifies and reports hazards. Meets all requirements for mandatory training. Adheres to policies/procedures specific to universal precautions. Adheres to policies regarding attendance, conduct, grooming, and dress code. Promotes a positive image of the hospital to outside agencies and the public. Participates in performance improvement activities as needed. Exhibits excellent service to program members, visitors, volunteers and co-workers. Shows courtesy, compassion and respect. Promotes the mission, vision and values of the organization. Frequent travel to the member's job site expected. Support pre-employment activities by helping member develop a resume, fill out job applications, or practice interviewing. Organize required job tasks into a format that can be easily understood by member; assist member in learning techniques to successfully complete tasks Discuss the specific job duties and environment with the member and provide practice opportunities to help member with skill mastery. Help member to apply behaviors and thoughts that help to separate her/his role as a worker from his/her disability and/or personal life. Help member develop understanding of safety procedures. Assist member in selecting/obtaining appropriate work wardrobe for the job environment. Assist member in using available community or other transportation to get safely to and from job site. Identify resources and supports in the workplace that the member can use for job support, transportation, and social connections. Help member practice and master specific work/social skills needed for particular employment position. Communicate with the employer regarding members work performance, needs for successful skill development, and prepare reports for the Vocational Services Supervisor.
On-Site:
Introduce member to the employer and co-workers. Train member how to do the job, or observe as the supervisor trains the member. Observe the ways that the member interacts with co-workers and supervisors for later discussion with the member. Covertly time member if productivity is an issue and use results for future training. Observe the productivity level of co-workers and set realistic expectations for the member. Observe the corporate culture of the environment and help the member to fit in with co-workers. Discuss your observations with the member especially touch on things like the appropriate time to take a cigarette break, when jokes are appropriate, etc. Fit the kind and amount of instruction to the member's learning style. Instruction may consist of verbal instruction, writing lists for the member, putting color coded markers on a list corresponding to markers on objects in the work environment, or just lending moral support. Help the member to develop his/her own system for organizing and remembering the job and gradually reduce on site coaching time. Mediate any differences with co-workers or employer if necessary, and teach the member the tools to resolve her/his own difficulties.
Off-site:
Meet with member prior to work, at breaks, or right after work. Schedule office meetings with employer and/or member to discuss any work related concerns. Attend any self-help or community activities with the member that will help the member to become integrated into the community. Coordinate activities with other team treatment providers, family members, or anyone else who will support (or hinder) the members ability to keep the job. Complete clubhouse member evaluations on work skills and abilities as it relates to their performance in the work unit. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum of High School Diploma; prefer Associate's Degree in a Human Service or vocationally related program or experience in provision of supported employment services. Requires knowledge and experience working with individuals with disabilities, preferable with persons who have brain injury. This position includes work requiring the consistent exercise of creative thinking, problem solving and judgment. Must have excellent organizational skills, verbal and written communication skills and desktop computing and operation skills. Must have reliable transportation.
