Job Description

Job Summary Under the direction of the Cardiovascular Services Director and Perfusionist, responsible for developing and coordinating the strategic, clinical, and operational plans and process for the Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS) program and its specialists. Supervises specialists providing
ECMO/MCS
services and provides direct patient care to patients receiving mechanical circulatory support. Maintains Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) registry as well as Corewell Health specific registry of all patients to which mechanical circulatory support was provided. Evaluates educational needs in order to develop and provide MCS education programs for patients, significant others, staff and community healthcare professionals. Responsible for maintaining all MCS equipment and coordinating the evaluation process to measure program outcomes. Coordinates the MCS program to ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations, organizational policy, and accreditation requirements. Essential Functions Communicates and collaborates with physicians and management to develop and present recommendations for strategic program initiatives that align with departmental and corporate business strategies. Supervises the activities of technical staff, who are engaged in providing
MCS/ECMO
services. Participates in the hiring process; mentors, coaches, evaluates and develops staff and acts as a role model and resource to them; plans and assigns work. Responsible for the development, maintenance and ongoing management of MCS program budget. Evaluates potential MCS candidates to ensure they meet the clinical qualifications for the MCS program. Coordinates all pre-procedure and post-implant clinical processes and provides case management for patients on mechanical circulatory support devices (MCSD). Provides clinical and technical support to physicians and clinical staff in the operation of the MCSD, including emergent evaluation of clinical and technical problems and development of solutions. Communicates, collaborates, educates, networks with and acts as a consultant to other members of the health care team and related departments within and outside Corewell Health. Assesses patient, significant other, staff and community educational needs in order to develop adequate MCS education programs. Develops and monitors the MCS education program and implements teaching strategies to ensure adequate education for patients, significant others, staff and community healthcare professionals. Qualifications Required Associate's Degree health care, related field or equivalent education and experience. Preferred Bachelor's Degree 3 years of relevant experience MCS specialist at Spectrum Health or equivalent experience Required 1 year of relevant experience supervisory/charge experience Preferred CRT-Respiratory Therapist Registry
