We are seeking an enthusiastic Vocational Specialist to join our team. This is a remote position based in the Akron, OH area. Job Summary Make a real impact by empowering individuals with disabilities to achieve meaningful employment. As a Vocational Specialist, you'll play a vital role in coordinating workforce services for participants referred by Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD) and the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD), helping them build skills, navigate their job search, and secure lasting employment. You'll report directly to the Program Manager of Workforce Services. What You Will Bring to the Role We're looking for someone who is: Deeply informed about employer expectations and the nuances of the hiring landscape Knowledgeable about the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), including how to request accommodations and support individuals with a wide range of disabilities Skilled in job development and placement strategies, with a clear understanding of how to position participants in a way that highlights their strengths and meets employer needs Empathetic and adaptable, with strong interpersonal, communication, and time management skills Ethical, professional, and reliable—someone participants and colleagues can count on Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, with the organizational drive to stay on top of goals and details What You Will Do Job Seeking Skills Training Deliver comprehensive training on key job search skills—application completion, interviewing, networking, resume/cover letter development, and follow-up strategies Provide guidance on addressing disability-related questions and discussing accommodations with potential employers Work 1-on-1 with participants to meet preparation benchmarks defined in the OOD Vocational Rehabilitation Provider Manual Ensure all participant materials meet internal and state program standards Maintain communication with the Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor (VRC) to ensure high-quality, consistent service delivery Job Search Program Attend weekly job search appointments with participants Research and provide 4-6 tailored job leads per week that align with participants' skills and abilities Deliver job development services in line with OOD guidelines Keep the VRC consistently informed of participant progress and engagement Monitor participant compliance and inform VRC of any major concerns Uphold Guardian Vocational Solutions' quality standards and contribute to a supportive, mission-driven environment Assist with other duties as needed Documentation and Outcomes Write clear, professional case reports following OOD, DODD and CARF requirements Submit accurate billing and outcomes data per Guardian policies Stay organized and up to date with all documentation protocols Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Human Services or a Healthcare-related field preferred (but not required) Strong understanding of the rehabilitation field and disability trends Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and a willingness to travel Excellent problem-solving abilities and communication skills This is more than a job—it's a chance to change lives, one career at a time.
