Job Description

This is a Permanent Part-Time appointment. Are you a passionate and dedicated Mental Health Nurse seeking a challenging role where your expertise can make a significant difference? We are looking for a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Mental Health Liaison to join our dynamic multi-disciplinary team at Western Australia Country Health Service.
Key Responsibilities:
Provides specialist evidence based mental health nursing knowledge and advanced mental health nursing skills consistent with contemporary practice. Conducts mental health triage and risk assessment, as requested by the Emergency Department and other areas of the hospital. Liaises with the mental health team for all psychiatric assessments undertaken. Liaises with the clinical staff and managers in relevant areas to ensure continuity of care between the Emergency Department and the APU or general ward, including risk management and discharge planning, 7 day follow up and mental health nursing documentation for mental health patients admitted to general wards. Liaises with RuralLink, to ensure that appropriate telephone assistance is provided to the Police and other consumer carers/significant others and community agencies. Supports and assists colleagues with their response to after-hours psychiatric emergencies. Acts as a consultant in issues relating to mental health nursing to clinicians and carers. Participates, as a senior member of the nursing team and on relevant committees to: 1.Plan departmental policies and objectives 2.Provide expert advice 3.Recommend innovative practices and evaluation strategies
Ideal Candidate:
Has significant, relevant and extensive clinical experience in the provision of Mental Health Services in an acute adult mental health setting. Demonstrates advanced skills in the nursing management of complex psychiatric presentations, risk assessment, crisis intervention and discharge planning in a clinical setting including and management of aggression. Can demonstrate advanced written, verbal and interpersonal communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills. Demonstrated ability to solve logistical problems that involve competing priorities Has the required computer skills to enable management of medical and patient records, navigation of online policy access, internal communication and completing online resources. Current knowledge of legislative obligations for the Mental Health Act (2014) Has current Authorised Mental Health Practitioner status or willingness to attend Office of Chief Psychiatrist training and seek gazettal for same.
