Harm Reduction Specialist Stockton Harm Reduction Program Stockton, CA Job Details Part-time $15 - $20 an hour 18 hours ago Qualifications Bilingual Spanish Outdoor work Harm reduction Working with individuals experiencing homelessness Driver's License First Aid Certification Full Job Description Job Overview The Harm Reduction Specialist is a vital member of the Stockton Harm Reduction Program, which aims to reduce community harm associated with drug use and related health risks. This role focuses on providing compassionate, judgment-free support to individuals who use drugs and/or are at risk of HIV, hepatitis, and other health complications. The Harm Reduction Specialist will distribute and collect syringes and drug use supplies, offer wound care and safer sex materials, and serve as a trusted resource for community members.
Key Responsibilities:
Outreach & Engagement:
Provide street- and site-based outreach to people who use drugs, including syringe and supply distribution and collection. Build trusting relationships with program participants through empathy, lived experience, and non-judgmental support. Conduct wellness checks and follow-up visits, when appropriate.
Harm Reduction Services:
Distribute sterile syringes, wound care kits, naloxone (Narcan), condoms, and other harm reduction supplies. Provide information and education on safer drug use, overdose prevention, HIV/STI prevention, and wound care. Offer basic wound care support and referral to medical care when necessary.
Support & Advocacy:
Act as a peer resource, offering support and guidance to individuals navigating health systems, treatment programs, or social services. Encourage hope, reduce stigma, and foster community connections. Advocate for the rights and dignity of people who use drugs and other marginalized groups.
Data & Documentation:
Accurately track supply distribution and participant interactions according to program protocols. Assist with basic reporting and inventory tasks. Maintain participant confidentiality and comply with privacy standards.
Qualifications:
Understanding of harm reduction principles and a strong commitment to public health, social justice, and non-judgmental service provision. Experience working with communities impacted by drug use, HIV/HCV, homelessness, or incarceration preferred. Ability to communicate effectively and compassionately with diverse populations. Reliable transportation and willingness to work in both fixed and mobile outreach settings. Ability to work weekends and in outdoor conditions, as needed. Must be willing to attend 3 out of the 4 Saturday outreach events every month.
Preferred Skills:
Bilingual in English/Spanish or other languages spoken in the Stockton community.

Experience with peer support, outreach, or community organizing. Knowledge of local services, including shelters, clinics, and recovery programs. CPR/First Aid certified or willingness to complete training.
