Community Lead Educator Benton Harbor, MI 49022 $14.54 an hour - Temporary $14.54 an hour - Temporary Job Summary The Community Lead Educator will play a critical role in the Berrien County Health Department's efforts to reduce lead exposure in the Benton harbor community. This PRN position involves conducting in-home assessments, providing education, and supporting residents as they transition to the statewide "Get Ahead of Lead Program." The role requires close collaboration with community partners and participation in public outreach efforts to ensure that residents are informed and supported in maintaining safe and lead-free homes. Duties 1. Community Lead Educators will support the Special Health Project Coordinators in the home visits by educating, empowering, and equipping residents to be able to sustain healthy and safe lifestyles by reducing household lead exposure. 2. Works closely and canvassing with variety of community partners, including but not limited to other health and human service agencies, health care providers, schools, municipalities, and other organizations to assure project/program progress is successful in addressing the identified population needs and raising awareness about lead hazards and the available resources. 3. Promote and advertise with BCHD staff by attending events with them and encouraging participation in the Get Ahead of Lead program. 4. Communicates information in a brief, clear, and organized manner; produces written information, which may include technical material that is appropriate for the intended audience. 5. Assist with Hosting monthly Point of Distribution events (PODS) to assist with program enrollment, filter distribution, and demonstrate filter and replacement cartridge installation. 6. Attend community events such as the Farmers Market and Resource fairs to provide information, distribute water filters and offer hands on assistance with the setting up and breaking down at community events. 7. Distribute and explain the Home Self-Assessment Tool to help residents identify lead hazards in their homes. 8. Host regular meetings with community partners to coordinate outreach and support activities. 9. Perform other special projects as assigned to support Berrien County Health Department programs. 10. Educates residents on common household lead exposures, navigate health effect of lead, how to test for lead and who should be tested once weekly. Requirements High School Diploma or equivalent required Possession of a valid vehicle operator's license and a vehicle is required In times of a public health emergency, may be required to report for specialized assigned duties inside or outside of Berrien County. The employee must have a physical capability of lifting up to 20lbs, bending, kneeling, and climbing stairs when needed.
