Outreach Specialist Detroit Quick Response Team Job Description:
The Detroit Quick Response Team (QRT) is responsible for responding to all non-fatal overdoses by providing immediate outreach at the doors of individuals who have recently experienced an overdose. In addition to direct outreach, the team also responds to hospital referrals and conducts proactive community outreach efforts. Individuals applying for this role should be comfortable engaging with people and families impacted by substance use disorder. Outreach activities will include engagement with individuals experiencing homelessness and entering homes as needed to connect individuals to harm reduction, recovery, and support services. This role focuses on accessing and providing recovery services, providing harm reduction services, education, and compassionate support to individuals with substance use disorders. The Quick Response Team (QRT) model is connecting individuals with substance use disorders to treatment and support services, ultimately reducing mortality. QRTs are typically made up of a small, multidisciplinary team (e.g., peer recovery coaches, harm reduction providers, social workers, nurses, behavioral health specialists, community health workers, EMTs/paramedics, and other clinical or non-clinical professionals).
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct outreach and engagement with individuals experiencing substance use disorders. Provide education on harm reduction strategies, including safer use practices and overdose prevention. Distribute harm reduction supplies such as naloxone, drug testing strips, and hygiene items. Conduct basic health assessments and screenings as needed. Provide referrals to healthcare, recovery, and social services providers. Conduct follow-up visits to support ongoing connections to care. Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary outreach team. Utilize trauma-informed care and person-centered engagement strategies. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent; additional training or certification in harm reduction or related fields preferred.
Substance Use Disorder/Recovery:
2 years (Preferred) Experience working in harm reduction, peer recovery, street outreach, or a related field. Must have a valid driver's license, be insurable under the organization's insurance policy, and have access to reliable transportation. Use of a personal vehicle may be required at times as part of job responsibilities. Knowledge of harm reduction strategies and local community resources. Strong communication, interpersonal, and engagement skills. Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and contribute as part of a team. Successful completion of a background check Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.
Physical Requirements:
The employee must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift up to 25 pounds for extended periods of time with or without reasonable accommodation.

Hourly Non-Exempt, Full Time up to 40 hours per week This position is grant-funded and subject to the funding, budget, and timelines within grant provisions.
Schedule:
Standard day shift is 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM (weekdays and weekends) Standard afternoon shift is 3:30PM to 11:00PM (weekdays and weekends) Potential flexibility to fill in for outreach shifts as needed.
