About the Individual The individual is a bubbly, funny, and creative young woman who is looking to become more involved in her community and build independence. She enjoys learning new things and has many interests including cooking, painting, making soap, listening to audiobooks, Pokémon Go, riding her adult three-wheel bicycle, caring for plants, and writing. She is visually impaired and may use a cane or benefit from support when navigating unfamiliar environments. She enjoys spending time with people she trusts and values genuine relationships. She does not immediately connect with everyone and takes time to become comfortable with new people. The family is looking for someone who is patient, consistent, reliable, and interested in developing a meaningful working relationship. Preferred Staff Characteristics Female preferred Friendly, patient, and dependable Comfortable supporting an individual with visual impairments Able to encourage independence while providing appropriate support Enjoys community-based activities Good communication skills Reliable transportation and valid driver's license preferred Goals and Areas of Support The DSP will assist the individual with increasing community involvement, independence, and social opportunities by supporting activities such as: Attending yoga classes YMCA membership activities and fitness opportunities Playing Pokémon Go and community walks Riding her adult three-wheel bicycle Shopping and community outings Laundry and laundromat skills Meal planning and grocery shopping Cooking and trying new recipes Soap making and other creative activities Pottery classes and community classes Building social skills and confidence in community settings Exploring new hobbies and recreational opportunities Additional Information The individual lives with her mother and one cat (the cat is not friendly and generally keeps to itself). She communicates verbally and is able to express her wants, needs, and preferences. She enjoys science-themed topics, creativity, and learning new skills. Staff should be comfortable providing support in unfamiliar community environments due to depth perception and visual-spatial challenges. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys helping others build confidence, independence, and community connections while participating in fun and meaningful activities.

Compensation:

$25.00 per hour through Self-Direction Community Habilitation services.
