Job Description
Position Summary Serves as an Election Department ambassador by escorting observers, supporting orderly access to designated areas, documenting prohibited behavior, and promoting a professional, secure, and nonpartisan environment at County election locations. Key Responsibilities Greet assigned observers, visitors, and authorized personnel professionally and explain site-specific escort and conduct expectations within the scope of training. Escort observers or authorized individuals to permitted areas and help ensure they remain within approved locations and follow County rules. Monitor for and document prohibited behavior, access violations, disruption, or safety concerns using the format provided by the County. Communicate observed issues promptly to the Lead Ambassador, site supervisor, or security contact without confrontation or speculation. Maintain clear, factual notes of incidents, times, names or identifiers when available, and actions taken. Support orderly traffic flow inside assigned facilities and provide general directional assistance when appropriate. Protect ballot security and voter privacy by following access-control, confidentiality, and nonpartisan conduct requirements. Required Skills and Competencies Strong customer service, calm communication, and professional presence in public-facing environments. Attention to detail when observing, documenting, and reporting conduct or access concerns. Ability to follow rules consistently while remaining respectful and nonpartisan. Team orientation and ability to coordinate with leads, security, observers, and election staff. Reliability, patience, and sound judgment in busy or sensitive environments. Minimum Qualifications and Compliance Requirements Background check and drug screening required before assignment. Must comply with County policies, observer rules, confidentiality expectations, and site procedures. Must complete required training on observer escort procedures, prohibited behavior, documentation, and escalation. Schedule and Working Conditions Public-facing assignment that may require standing, walking, escorting, and working near election operations for extended periods. May involve interaction with observers or members of the public in high-visibility situations. Must be available to work through the election cycle with limited requested days off. Must be available for schedule needs that may include 8-10 hour shifts, weekends, flexible start and end times, overtime, and extended hours on specific event days, especially Election Day. Must remain reliable, punctual, and responsive to assignment changes during a fast-paced, deadline-driven election environment. Must follow County security rules, workplace policies, chain-of-custody expectations, confidentiality requirements, dress code, and professional conduct standards. Performance Expectations Completes assigned work accurately, on time, and in accordance with training and County procedures. Maintains nonpartisan conduct, voter confidentiality, ballot security, and respectful service at all times. Escalates exceptions, voter issues, equipment concerns, safety concerns, and unclear instructions promptly to the designated supervisor or lead. Accurately documents work performed, materials handled, calls received, records updated, and/or batch activity as applicable to the assignment.
