- About the Role
- We are seeking compassionate and resilient professionals to join a high-volume call center supporting community members in need. As a
- Community Care Advocate
- , you will handle incoming crisis and support calls, connecting individuals and families with critical resources such as food, housing, utility assistance, and more. This is a
- fast-paced, high-stress environment
- where calls are continuous and often emotionally charged. Success in this role requires the ability to balance empathy with efficiency while guiding conversations toward helpful outcomes.
- Key Responsibilities
- Handle a
- high volume of inbound calls
- (300-500 team calls/day)
- Provide information and referrals for:
- Housing and shelter
- Food assistance
- Utility and rent support
- Healthcare, childcare, and employment services
- Use active listening to understand both
- stated and unstated needs
- Demonstrate empathy while maintaining professionalism and objectivity
- Identify solutions and connect callers to appropriate local resources
- Accurately document interactions and maintain data within internal systems
- Report inaccuracies in resource databases
- Participate in occasional community outreach events

- Training & Onboarding
- Week 1:
- Onsite (8:30 AM
- 5 PM)
- self-guided manual-based learning (5+ hours/day reading)
- Week 2:
- Shadowing (schedule may vary
- must be flexible)
- Candidates must be comfortable with
- independent learning
- Full transition to remote work after training (equipment provided)
- Call Center Environment
- Continuous calls with minimal downtime
- Average call time:
- 5-7 minutes
- Performance is measured by:
- Call quality and efficiency
- Caller satisfaction
- Proper documentation
- Required Qualifications
- Minimum
- 1 year of high-volume call center experience
- Experience handling
- 30+ calls/day
- in a queue-based environment
- Strong multitasking:
- typing while speaking
- Ability to work in a
- high-pressure, emotionally intense environment
- Willingness to work the assigned shift and training schedule
- Preferred
- Background
- Experience in non-profit, social services, or human services settings
- High school diploma or GED

- This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Detroit, MI.
- Pay and Benefits
- The pay range for this position is $19.00
- $19.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment. Benefits are subject to change and may be subject to specific elections, plan, or program terms. If eligible, the benefits available for this temporary role may include the following:
