Job Description

Job Title:
Molecular Technologist I Location:
Northwest Arkansas Pathology Associates, Fayetteville, AR Terms:
Full-time, (initial 90 day probationary period)
Shift:
Day-Shift, schedule may vary, weekend rotations
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Performing moderate and high complexity clinical sample testing within the Molecular Laboratory according to policies and procedures. 2. Performance of a variety of tasks related to molecular biology, including but not limited to, DNA and RNA extractions, RT-PCR, and NGS (Next Generation Sequencing) 3. Perform quality control assessments and routine instrument maintenance using CLIA and accrediting agency standards and manufacturer specifications to assure the validity of laboratory test results. 4. Cross-train in Flow Cytometry and Cytology Processing. 5. Participate in monitoring CAP checklist standards for departmental compliance when directed by supervisor. 6. Demonstrate problem-solving ability, organize workflow efficiently, and perform tests successfully in all areas with a minimum of supervision. 7. Ensures specimen integrity by adhering to the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing. 8. Communicate issues to department supervisor regarding equipment, instruments, or reagents. 9. Enter and verify data within the LIS system. 10. Maintain instruments, schedules authorized routine service, and maintains instrument documentation 11. Performs, enters, and maintains Quality Control assessments and data. 12. Completes other duties as assigned by the department supervisor, administration, or attending pathologists. 13. Provides technical feedback to the supervisor or lead regarding workflow issues. 14. Monitor and maintain inventory in assigned area. 15. Adhere to compliance, confidentiality, and safety policies and procedures. 16. Participate in general and job specific training sessions and annual competency assessment.
Skills Required:
1. Excellent attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks. 2. Ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the laboratory and work well across lab areas. 3. Ability to work alone with minimal supervision. 4. Ability to lift 20 pounds. 5. Discern alpha-numeric sequences. 6. Ability to handle small specimen containers and pouring or pipetting of samples. 7. Visually evaluate and interpret test results. 8. The ability to use automated and semi-automated instrumentation, pipettes, computers, and keyboards.
Job Qualifications:
• B.S. degree in Medical Technology or Chemical, Biological, or Physical Science to fulfill CLIA high complexity testing qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
• 1 to 3 years of experience in Molecular Pathology.
