Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for performing all testing, including High Complexity Testing, in the Laboratory.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Performs all testing, including high complexity testing, after competency on each test/process has been established. a. Follows Lab procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting & maintaining records of patient test results. b. Maintains records that indicate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples. c. Adheres to the lab's quality control procedures, documents all quality control activities, instrument & procedural calibrations & maintenance performed. d. Follows the Lab's established policies & procedures whenever test systems are not within the Lab's established acceptable levels of performance. e. Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results, and either corrects the problem immediately or informs the Supervisor. f. Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the Lab's established performance specifications. g. Participates as assigned by Department director in Performance Improvement and Quality Assurance monitoring as needed. h. Learns and is competent in performing Medical Necessity checks on lab non- patients as instructed by Department Director. i. Learns and actively participates in electronic communications, via company email, H.I.S. (hospital information system) communications and MRMC phone operations. j. Actively acquires CEU (continuing education credits) via media provided and other resources and turns in to Department director each quarter. k. Attends and participates in required facility wide and laboratory staff meetings. This is included in annual employee evaluations. 2. Performs venipunctures & capillary sticks, as needed. 3. Assists in the training of new employees & students. 4. Takes call and works alternative shifts/days as needed. 5. Follows all regulations & standards of regulatory bodies. 6. Performs other duties as assigned by Director of Laboratory
REQUIREMENTS
A. Must have an Associate Degree from an accredited program of Medical Laboratory Technology. B. Prefer at least one year of experience as a MLT or MT. C. Prefer A.S.C.P. certification or equivalent. D. : Comply with standards as set forth by state and federal agencies, and hospital requirements including annual TB skin test and educational in-services.
