Job Summary and Qualifications The Cytotechnologist / Cytotech is responsible for preparation and storage of all specimens and necessary documentation. Prepares stains and slides for reading by Cytotechnologist or review by the Pathologist.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

+ Stains, mounts, and studies cells of human body to detect evidence of cancer, hormonal abnormalities and other pathological conditions, following established standards and practices: Prepares microscopic slides from specimens of blood, scrapings, or other bodily exudates and fixes stains and slide to preserve specimen and enhance visibility of cells under microscope. + Examine cell samples to detect abnormal hormone conditions. + Examine cell samples to detect abnormalities in the color, shape, or size of cellular components and patterns. + Evaluate cells for the presence of cancer, precancero us changes, or infections. + Prepare and analyze samples, such as Papanicolaou ( PAP ) smear body fluids and fine needle aspirations ( FNAs) to detect abnormal conditions . + Provide patient clinical data or microscopic findings to assist pathologists in the preparation of pathology reports. + Assist Pathologists or other physicians to collect cell samples such as by fine needle aspiration ( FNA ) biopsies. + Quality Assurance in the laboratory including the maintenance of the system in accordance with the requirements of the College of the American Pathologists and preparation for site visits. + Prepare slides and reports in a timely fashion , ensuring Q.C. are met. + Maintain procedures and records to meet all regulatory standards . + Perform other duties as necessary for efficient operation of the department. + Actively seeks ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, quality of care or the services delivered. + Demonstrates knowledge of the occurrence reporting system. Uses system to report potential patient safety issues. + Follows established guidelines for reporting a significant medical error or una nticipated outcome in the patient's care which results in patient harm. + Attends in-service presentations and completes all mandatory education requirements. Uses Performance Improvement Plan to improve patient safety. + Regular, Punctual and dependable attendance. + Prepare and maintain reagents and equipment.
