Cytogenetics technologist job description Is competent and able to perform all routine cytogenetic procedures including and not limited to: tissue culture harvest of metaphase chromosomes from blood, bone marrow, and normal & neoplastic tissue specimens slide making G banding Automated karyotyping procedures International System of Cytogenetic Nomenclature (ISCN) Is adept, current, and competent in special cytogenetic procedures including: Complex chromosome analysis All aspects of Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH) Cell separation Quality Control documents daily performance of reagents & equipment evaluates acceptability of results validates FISH probes Troubleshooting Performs & evaluates trouble shooting procedures independently or by instruction Evaluates modifications for improvement of current methods, Participates in the Laboratory s Performance Improvement Plan, Administrative Duties Record Keeping Patient worksheets Quality control records Procedure modification trials Assists in training staff Assists in preparation for inspection Education A bachelor s degree in cytogenetic technology, biology, or a related science,
