Job Description

Northwell Health is seeking an experienced Cytotechnologist to join the pathology and laboratory services team at South Shore University Hospital. This role is responsible for the screening and evaluation of gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytology specimens, identification of abnormal cellular findings, and collaboration with pathologists to support accurate and timely patient diagnoses. This position offers the opportunity to work in a high-volume pathology environment with involvement in Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) services. Candidates with experience performing Rapid On-Site Evaluation (ROSE) for FNA procedures are strongly preferred. Key Responsibilities Screen and evaluate GYN and non-GYN cytology specimens. Perform microscopic examination using both manual and automated screening methods. Identify abnormal cellular findings and appropriately refer cases to pathologists for review. Participate in Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) procedures and perform Rapid On-Site Evaluation (ROSE) when applicable. Assess specimen adequacy and ensure proper collection and processing procedures. Maintain specimen integrity and compliance with laboratory protocols. Perform quality control activities and routine equipment maintenance. Accurately document findings and communicate results through the laboratory information system and EMR. Support stat and priority cases to ensure efficient turnaround times. Adhere to all laboratory safety, quality assurance, and regulatory requirements. QualificationsRequired Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution. Active New York State Cytotechnologist License. Strong attention to detail and commitment to diagnostic accuracy. Preferred ASCP Cytotechnologist (CT) Certification. Previous cytology screening experience. Experience performing FNA Rapid On-Site Evaluation (ROSE). Experience working in a high-volume pathology laboratory environment. Why Join Northwell Health?
