The Grossing Technician is responsible for receiving specimens, verifying specimens, ensuring specimen integrity, describing specimen, cutting specimen, and placing specimen in cassette. In addition, the Grossing Technician responsibilities include but are not limited to providing gross description for each specimen; dissecting and preparing/inking specimen according to Pathologists' direction; loading prepared cassettes into Tissue Processor; filing/retrieving blocks and slides in an accurate and timely manner; and performing appropriate quality control and assurance procedures. Key Results Areas (KRAs): Specimen handling, processing specimen description, and specimen sectioning Specimen integrity Block and slide filing and retrieving Regulatory compliance and quality assurance Physician and departmental support Core Competencies Knowledge of laboratory practices, procedures, and equipment Familiar with standard concepts, techniques, and procedures within the pathology field Knowledge of safety, compliance, and regulatory issues Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills Committed to supporting UCH's standard to medical excellence Ability to maintain the confidentiality of patient information and other UCH business information in accordance with HIPAA and other compliance standardsRequirements:
Education & Experience:
