IMMEDIATE OPENING
for a Full-Time Cytotechnologist to support Madigan Army Medical Center, WA.
Minimum Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree. Have graduated from a school of cytotechnology accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation or other organization approved by HHS. Current certification/registration as determined by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or possess a current license as a cytotechnologist issued by the State in which the laboratory is located. One year of experience.
Core Duties:
Perform slide interpretation and provide diagnostic results of gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytology samples. Evaluates and interprets cytological specimens for disease processes as manifested in cytopathology preparations. The diagnostic interpretation of these specimens directs the clinician in the treatment of patients. Issues the final diagnosis for those gynecological cases rendered negative these diagnoses include hormonal aberrations, microbiological findings, and inflammatory related changes. Determine the suitability of specimens for analysis. Prepare specimens for analysis and ensure that the cellular structures and features of diagnostic material is maintained. Prepare reagents and primary reference materials as necessary. Calibrate, standardize, adjust, and maintain instruments. Verify correct instrument operation using established procedures and quality control checks. Identify the cause of common problems and make simple repairs. Participates in the collection and preparation of specimens. This includes, but is not limited to, fine needle aspiration, bronchoscopy, touch preparations, and endoscopy. Determines the adequacy of such specimens and if appropriate recommends repetition of procedure. Instructs clinician on the proper method for obtaining cytologic specimens for optimal diagnoses Conduct quality control procedures on equipment, reagents and products and maintain proper records for quality control and quality assurance reports.
