Title Dental Assistant FLSA:

Responsible for chairside assisting for dentist(s) and hygienist(s), and providing direct patient services within AZ state legal allowances for dental assistants, at the dental clinic and/or Dental RV Clinic. Responsible for various administrative functions, including scheduling, inventory maintenance, reporting, and community outreach and education. Essential Functions Dental Assistant Responsibilities - 1. Serves as dentists or dental hygienist chairside assistant. 2. Cleans and disinfects treatment rooms following treatment, according to OSHA, CDCP, and ADA standards. 3. Sets up treatment rooms with correct instruments, materials, and supplies for procedure planned. 4. Completes procedure with patient at dentist's or hygienist's request, within legal parameters (i.e., sealants, temporary crown, polishing restoration, coronal polishing). 5. Exposes radiographs in accordance with Dental Standard of Care and radiation safety. 6. Performs minor repairs and troubleshooting of dental equipment. 7. Steam autoclaves or disinfects all reusable instruments and equipment in compliance with OSHA, CDCP, and ADA standards. 8. Disposes of sharps and potentially contaminated trash correctly, in accordance with UCHC policy and
OSHA, CDCP, ADA

Operates in compliance with Dental Exposure Control Manual, Hazard Communication Manual, and Safety Manual, which are based on OSHA, CDCP, and ADA standards. 11. Performs computer tasks in compliance with Dental Policies and Procedures. Enters dental charting, treatment plan, and other required entries accurately and thoroughly. 12. Assists in inventory maintenance and storage, including materials, supplies, handouts, and any other needed items. This may include carrying small equipment, instruments, supplies, and materials to prepare for portable dentistry. 13. Educates parents and children of all ages regarding prevention of dental disease, using lay language that is age-specific. 14. Assists front personnel with scheduling; communicates with front desk regarding treatment completed and continuation of treatment plan appointments. Assistant also responsible to schedule appointments chairside with the instruction from clinical supervisor. 15. On RV, performs all clinical assisting duties, helps with scheduling, and performs daily housekeeping of RV as assigned by Dental Manager. Additional Duties & Responsibilities 1. Attends and participates in mandatory in-service and staff meetings and participates in voluntary in-service or outside trainings and staff meetings as appropriate. 2. Travel to clinic or schools as needed, assist in office as needed. 3. Assists in orientation and training new staff members and/or student externs as needed. 4. Participates in interdisciplinary task forces and work groups as relevant. 5. Participates in and complies with Quality Improvement initiatives and ongoing continuous improvement efforts as appropriate. 6. All other tasks as assigned. Experience/Skills 1. A comprehensive knowledge of dental assisting terminology, techniques, procedures, instrumentation, materials, OSHA requirements, and instrument passing for all phases of general dentistry. 2. Strong leadership and organizational skills. 3. Excellent customer service skills, especially with children of all ages and diverse populations. 4. Effective written and oral communication with patients, parents, and co-workers; fluent Spanish highly desirable. 5. Demonstrated knowledge, understanding, application, and adherence to organization and clinic policies (upon completion of training). 6. Ability to attend to multiple tasks at the same time and to prioritize assignments and responsibilities to ensure compliance with established deadlines and protocols. 7. A positive, professional attitude. 8. A team player, able to work in and foster a team environment. Qualifications/Requirements 1. Graduation from CODA-accredited dental assistant program. 2. Minimum one year working in a pediatric dental setting, including exposing x-rays. 3. High school diploma or GED. 4. Bilingual in Spanish strongly preferred. 5. Reliable vehicle and proof of vehicle insurance. Licensure/Certification 1. Valid Arizona Certification in Radiology 2. Valid Arizona Certification in Coronal Polishing 3. Current CPR certification 4. Valid Arizona driver's license •Full
