Responsibilities Assist the dentist during a variety of dental procedures, including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry, ensuring all instruments and materials are prepared and sterilized according to aseptic techniques. Take and develop dental radiographs (X-ray), ensuring proper positioning and safety protocols are followed to protect patients from radiation exposure. Manage patient records using electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix, accurately documenting treatment details, medical history, vital signs, and medical imaging results. Support infection control protocols by sterilizing instruments, maintaining a clean operatory environment, and adhering to HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality. Conduct preliminary patient assessments including vital signs measurement and basic medical documentation to assist with diagnosis and treatment planning. Collaborate with the dental team in four-handed dentistry techniques to improve efficiency and patient comfort during procedures. Serve as a dental receptionist when needed by scheduling appointments, verifying insurance information, and managing patient flow to ensure a positive experience. Skills Proficiency in dental assisting techniques with knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and medical terminology relevant to dentistry. Experience with dental software platforms such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic for managing medical records and documentation. Strong understanding of infection control practices including aseptic technique and sterilization procedures. Ability to operate dental imaging equipment including 3D scanners when applicable for advanced diagnostics. Knowledge of pediatric dentistry principles and experience working with pediatric patients is preferred. Familiarity with medical coding for billing purposes related to dental procedures and treatments. Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with patients of all ages and support a welcoming environment.
