JOB SUMMARY

dental clinic provides compassionate, nonjudgmental comprehensive oral healthcare. Our supportive staff, experienced with the complex healthcare needs resulting from homelessness and poverty, is dedicated to serving the community. The On-Call Dental Assistant I is responsible for scheduling dental appointments, determining eligibility, and under the general supervision of a Dentist in a clinical setting, assisting the dentist in providing dental treatment. Haight Ashbury Free Clinic (HAFC) at the Integrated Care Center (ICC) offers primary medical, dental, substance use disorder treatment, and mental health services guided by the principle that "Healthcare is a Right, Not a Privilege."
HAFC/ICC
provides compassionate, nonjudgmental care to patients who experience homelessness, poverty, and addiction. Our providers have specialized expertise in preventative health, acute and chronic conditions, treatment of infectious diseases, psychiatry, and addiction medicine. Under the general supervision of a Dentist in a clinical setting, assists the dentist in providing dental treatment. Key Responsibilities Assist in the provision of high-quality care within the scope of service consistent with accepted standards of care for dental assistants. Prepare each operatory and patient for treatment. Take and prepares radiographs using digital technology. Provide active chairside assistance to the Dentist and anticipates the provider's needs. At the conclusion of patient care, assists the patient, clears the work site and prepares for the next patient. Monitors the flow of laboratory cases. Monitor and record sterilization cycles and follows proper infection control protocols for the practice. Help to manage patient flow in clinic. Schedule dental appointments both in-person and over the telephone. Retrieve messages from voicemail and fax/message inbox and forward to appropriate personnel via telephone encounter if applicable. Verify patient eligibility and receive patient payments such as co-pays, outstanding balances, guarantor payments and assign them to the correct patient accounts. Manage incoming and outgoing patient documentation such as consents, signing treatment plans, patient referrals, ROI's, medical clearances, lab and supply invoices and scanning as needed. Assist Patient access coordinators as time allows. Ability to place topical medications. Ability to set up and prepare dental equipment and instrumentation in accordance with established regulations and guidelines. Ability to manage the dental office infection control plan to meet OSHA, CDC and ADA standards. Maintains and expands current level of dental assistant skill and knowledge by periodically attending continuing education programs. Team player. Accepts and offers guidance and supervision as appropriate.
Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
High School Diploma or
GED. CPR/BLS
certification. Radiation Safety certificate (X-ray license). Infection control course certificate. Additional, but not required: Coronal Polish certificate. Pit and Fissure Sealants certificate. Fluent Spanish language skills is highly desired. We will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records. Must complete a background check and livescan.
