Purpose:
Support safe, efficient, patient-centered clinical care by preparing operatories, assisting chairside, supporting records and radiographs within scope, maintaining sterilization and infection-control standards, and helping the dentist stay on schedule.
- Prepare treatment rooms, instruments, materials, and patient charts before procedures.
- Assist dentist chairside during examinations, restorative care, emergencies, and other procedures within scope.
- Take and process radiographs only as licensed/authorized and in accordance with radiation safety requirements.
- Document clinical notes, treatment information, materials, and patient instructions accurately in Dentrix as directed.
- Review patient medical histories, medications, allergies, and consent status and alert dentist to concerns.
- Maintain sterilization workflows, instrument processing, spore testing, PPE, surface disinfection, and operatory turnover standards.
- Provide patient education, post-operative instructions, and reassurance within scope and dentist direction.
- Monitor inventory of clinical supplies, instruments, PPE, and lab cases; communicate re-order needs timely.
- Follow OSHA/Cal-OSHA, HIPAA, bloodborne pathogens, infection-control, sharps, waste, and radiation safety procedures.
- Help maintain schedule flow by anticipating dentist needs and communicating delays or patient concerns.
Required qualifications:
- Current California RDA license in good standing.
- Current CPR/BLS certification as required for role and practice requirements.
- Radiography certification/authorization as applicable to assigned duties.
- Knowledge of infection control, sterilization, PPE, and OSHA/Cal-OSHA dental safety requirements.
- Professional chairside manner and strong patient communication.
- Ability to work efficiently without compromising safety or documentation quality.
- Dentrix or comparable software experience preferred. 90-day success measures:
- Operatories are ready on time and schedule flow improves.
- Sterilization and infection-control documentation is current and reliable.
- Clinical notes and radiographs are accurate, timely, and within scope.
- Dentist has fewer delays caused by missing supplies, instruments, lab cases, or room setup.
- Patient feedback reflects confidence, professionalism, and clear communication.
Compliance binder and training records are maintained for assigned clinical areas.
