In this energetic role, you will support orthodontists by providing exceptional chairside assistance, managing patient care, and ensuring smooth clinic operations. Duties Assist orthodontists during patient procedures, including bracket placement, wire adjustments, and appliance installation using four-handed dentistry techniques. Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up dental materials, and ensuring all equipment such as 3D scanners and medical imaging devices are ready for use. Take and develop dental X-rays, including panoramic and cephalometric images, adhering strictly to HIPAA regulations and infection control protocols. Manage patient records within EMR systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix, ensuring accurate documentation of treatment plans, progress notes, and medical history. Educate patients on orthodontic care instructions, appliance maintenance, and oral hygiene practices tailored for pediatric dentistry and general dentistry needs. Monitor vital signs when necessary and assist with medical documentation related to patient health status. Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments with the dental receptionist and managing medical records while maintaining confidentiality under HIPAA guidelines. Experience Previous experience working in a dental clinic environment is required, with a strong focus on orthodontics or pediatric dentistry preferred. Proficiency in dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting, aseptic technique, and anatomy knowledge is essential. Familiarity with dental terminology, medical coding, and electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Dentrix enhances your effectiveness. Knowledge of infection control standards, sterilization procedures, and proper use of dental imaging technology is necessary to ensure patient safety. Experience with advanced tools like 3D scanners or other medical imaging devices is a plus. Certification in radiography or X-ray licensing is required; additional certifications in pediatric dentistry or endodontics are advantageous. Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members—including dental receptionists—and provide outstanding patient care are vital.
