These individuals increase the efficiency of the dentist in delivering quality oral health care.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
The primary responsibility of a Dental Assistant is to aid the dentist during procedures to ensure efficient flow and quality patient care. Supports dental care delivery by preparing the treatment room, patient, instruments, and materials, passing instruments and materials, performing procedures in compliance with the dental practice act.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepares patient for dental treatment through communication, comfort, and draping of the patient Prepares treatment room for patient by following procedures and protocol regulated by the Federal, State and the Company including positioning instruments for dentist's access; suctioning; and passing instruments Ensures that all dental instruments are cleaned, dated, and processed according to established clinic guidelines and OSHA standards Maintains dental supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed supplies, placing and expediting orders, organizing stockroom and verifying receipt of supplies Answering patient questions and concerns before appointments and procedures Assists with dental x-rays and dental lab work Develops and processes dental radiographs in accordance with provider orders; assists in monitoring and maintenance of radiation safety procedures and protocols Administering topical anesthetic prior to dental injection, taking pre-operative impressions, provisional fabrication Monitors autoclave sterilization tracking Maintains dental laboratory slips and creates and maintains dental records Educates patients by providing oral hygiene, plaque control, and post-operative instructions Prepares and reviews the necessary consent forms Verify and ensure charts are completed correctly Monitors and manages the medical emergency kits Introduces new patients to other team members in a 2-1 transfer Promotes treatment plans and encourage patients to begin treatment Maintain a clean and neat working area Adhere to uniform and dress code policy Perform additional duties as assigned
SKILLS AND SPECIFICATIONS
Ability to write clearly, concisely, logically, and legibly Demonstrate accuracy in spelling and basic mathematics Speak, understand and write grammatically correct English Demonstrate thorough knowledge of Dentistry including dental terminology, technology, health maintenance, procedures Maintain a professional demeanor at all times Demonstrates exceptional human relation skills and manual dexterity Ability to assess issues and seek resolutions Computer proficiency and the ability to learn new programs
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
Dental Assistant Certification Dental Radiographer Certification from the Florida Department of Health (FDOH) Two years of Dental Assistant experience Open Dental knowledge preferred CPR Certification preferred Ability to travel from office to office as needed Front and back experience a plus Office Bonus-unlimited earning potential
