Job Overview Join our growing oral and maxillofacial surgery practice as an Oral Surgery Assistant , where your skills and energy will directly enhance patient care and comfort. In this vital role, you will support a Board-Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon by preparing surgical operatories, assisting chairside during procedures, and ensuring a seamless patient experience from check-in to post-op. Your attention to detail and ability to stay composed in a fast-paced surgical environment will contribute to a practice dedicated to delivering exceptional care. Responsibilities Prepare surgical operatories by sterilizing instruments, setting up surgical trays and necessary supplies, and ensuring all equipment is in proper working order using aseptic techniques. Assist the oral surgeon during procedures such as routine and complex extractions, wisdom teeth removal, dental implant placement, bone grafting, oral biopsies, and IV sedation cases with precision and confidence. Take and process dental radiographs including panoramic and 3D CBCT imaging while maintaining strict adherence to infection control protocols and HIPAA regulations for patient privacy. Manage patient records by updating medical documentation and maintaining accurate surgical and medical records. Monitor vital signs and assess patient comfort before, during, and after surgical procedures and IV sedation to ensure safety and well-being. Provide excellent chairside assistance by managing surgical instruments efficiently, anticipating the surgeon's needs, and supporting front office staff with appointment scheduling and patient communication when needed. Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment following infection control and OSHA standards specific to an oral surgery practice. Skills Proficiency with dental practice management software for accurate documentation and record keeping. Strong knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality at all times. Experience with dental and surgical imaging techniques including panoramic X-ray and CBCT 3D scanning technology for comprehensive diagnostics. Skilled in chairside surgical assisting with a focus on four-handed technique to optimize efficiency during procedures. Familiarity with oral surgery terminology, surgical instrumentation, and IV sedation monitoring protocols. Ability to perform vital signs assessment and monitor patient health throughout surgical procedures and sedation recovery. Knowledge of infection control practices, OSHA compliance, and aseptic technique essential for maintaining a sterile surgical environment. Excellent communication skills suitable for collaborating with the surgeon and team members to ensure smooth daily operations. Bilingual English and Spanish is a plus.
