Job Description
TITLE:
Dental Assistant Sealants Reports to: I-Smile Coordinator Job Summary Contribute to the mission and vision of MICA by creating a positive, respectful, and safe environment when working with children, families and agency and community partners. This position is in a program that is responsible for generating revenue to sustain the program. Works to increase participation rates at clinics. Assists with the school sealant program by transporting and setting up all needed equipment. Assists with workflow by directing students through the process, completing patient charts and capturing data, and assisting dental hygienist as needed. Also responsible for ordering supplies and cleaning equipment. Supports MICA's mission, vision, values, Ways of Working, and Whole Family Approach. This position must perform regular duties at the assigned worksites. Summary of Essential Job Functions Compliance Build and maintain positive relationships with families, program, agency and community partners, and volunteers This position is in a program that is responsible for generating revenue to sustain the program Works to increase participation rates at clinics Transports and sets up all needed equipment Work with school personnel to set up Sealant work space Ensures all required parental/guardian permission slips are maintained Assist with scheduling as needed Seats students and prepares for treatment Ensure all services are documented on service documentation forms Completes dental radiographs and sends to partner Dentist for treatment purposes Sterilizes dental instruments and cleans equipment Distributes supplies to students and school nurses as appropriate Orders dental supplies and maintains equipment Develop skills and knowledge related to the position Attend/complete all trainings as required Maintain certifications as required Complete Mandatory Child Abuse Reporter training as requiredKnowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

Must be able to maintain a calm, composed demeanor in a highly active physical, social and emotional environment Able to work with school-age patients who may have anxiety over dental visits o Excellent listening skills o Calming, reassuring demeanor o Maintain objectivity Occasionally lifts, carries or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to 40 pounds when stocking supplies or setting up equipment Operates a computer The person in this position needs to have fine motor skills in order to perform chairside assisting tasks The person in this position needs to move about inside the office to perform various job functions Must have and maintain reliable transportation, a valid driver's license and proof of automobile insurance . License must be in good standing as may be required to drive agency vehicle.Education & Experience Required:
Must be a Registered Dental Assistant, Radiography Qualification (QDA) preferred, registered in the practice of dental assisting in Iowa through the Iowa Board of Dental Examiners, one year of clinical practice experience AND Must obtain Public Health Supervision status through the Iowa Dental Board within 30 days of hireOther:
Candidates offered the position must meet the following criteria: Successful completion of all background checks at hire and thereafter according to agency and program standards. Staff who work in centers that serve infants will be required to have a Tdap immunization per Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations Provide the agency with a TB assessment at time of hire and every year thereafter. Must be a Registered Dental Assistant, Radiography Qualification (QDA) preferred, registered in the practice of dental assisting in Iowa through the Iowa Board of Dental Examiners, one year of clinical practice experience AND Must obtain Public Health Supervision status through the Iowa Dental Board within 30 days of hire. Come join our Health Services department at MICA! We are seeking a registered dental assistant to assist with our school sealant program. This position offers a dynamic environment as you'll travel to schools in our service area to provide important preventative dental care to children. You'll be part of a team that is responsible for transporting and setting up all needed equipment and working one on one with students. You'll provide program support by guiding the workflow of the day, completing patient charts, capturing data, and assisting the dental hygienist as needed. MICA typically provides a vehicle for travel to participating schools.
